Trump Eponymity (SUMMARY FINAL 170220), Robert Blew
-Abstract: Biosphere disasters (Biodiaster) – disease (emerging/novel, reemerging, acute, chronic, morbidity, mortality, infectious/contagious/communicable, sequella, environmental/ noncommunicable, nosocomial, antibiotic resistance), biome damage, invasive species, famine, CBRN [Symbols], contamination (pollution, toxin/poison, hazmat, biohazard), All Biohazards (ABH, All Hazards), antibiotic resistance, climate change, over or under population and demographic ratios, habitat and species loss/decline, warfare, famine, etc. – is the disruption of environment and life processes that will harm people, their resources and livelihoods. Parademic [Symbol] (people alongside syndemic) is about how humans behave in the milieu of biodisasters, as well as the anthropogenic and social consequences of that behavior. During the past seven years collecting material for a database on parademic it was noted that the same behaviors that are repeatedly observed in biodisaster also happen in non biodisaster events, that biodisaster is not necessary to have parademic behavior, or counter-intuitively parademic can lead to biodisaster. Social disruptions provide comparative analogues for a descriptive survey to an analogous social disruption without (presumably) the risks, loss of life, and maiming that are characteristic of a biodisaster. This is done by taking advantage of the opportunity for a natural experiment – observing a situation that develops without instigation by researchers that morally and ethically cannot be a controlled experiment with human subjects. The election of Donald Trump as the President of the USA was the ideal vehicle of a circumstance to observe and collect what unexpectedly became a deluge of electronic media items and sources with multiple and conflicting perspectives. The confluence of this perfect storm was like the chaotic data flow of a biodisaster. This is an analogue to the ways that people act, or not act, that hinders and assists in the planning and decisions for identification of the threat, mobilization of resource, and for the containment and control of a biodisaster. This abbreviation of the study is indicative of the potential trends that are likely to continue under the social disruption/parademic of Trumpism that may lead to a biodisaster, or hinder responses to one.
-1. Introduction; 2. Trumpism Defined; 3. Harbingers; 4. Economic Impact; 5. Narrative; 6. Conditions of Uncertainty; 7. Exploitation; 8. Parademic Not Observed; 9. Conclusion and Beginning.
-1. Introduction. This project started the day after Trump won the 2016 election on November 8 and ended the day before his inauguration, 19 January 2017. A planning assumption was that the parademic-like behavior during this period would be limited to speculation and statements concerning the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, Climate Change (Denial), Anti-Vaccination, and background on Conspiracy Theory Narratives. Instead not only did the predicted parademic topics appear, but additional parademic behavior and the social (disruptive) consequences appeared in the approximately 72 days between the election and inauguration.
-1.1. This original intent of this working paper was to compare and contrast the social phenomena of parademic outside of its normal milieu of biodisasters – how changes in the biosphere that are deleterious to human life and livelihoods affect behavior. Parademics are the human behaviors and social responses (or lack of) that tend to occur in the context of biodisasters that either facilitate or hinder the containment and control of a biodisaster. An initial concern was that there would be insufficient information to validate that social disruption from a non biodisaster is or is not a comparable analogue with parademic from a biodisaster. Instead there was a cacophony from the conflagration of raw information, not unlike that experienced in a biodisaster that is developing into parademic. In comparison, oftentimes there were more related electronic media items available in a single day of the collection period than were collected in a week at the height (75 stubs) of the West African Ebola outbreak and the Ebolaphobia it generated.
-Quote1: No plan survives contact with reality. – Truism by Various. One of the variations of a quote attributed to Helmuth von Moltke the Elder.
-1.2. Analogues are indirect examples of biodisaster or parademic, but are logically comparable. When the parademic concept and blog were being developed there was not as much open source media interest in disease and other biodisaster, much less how people behaved during those periods. Analogies were used frequently during that time as thankfully real world examples were few. Unfortunately, especially since the West African Ebola epidemic and the Ebolaphobia that impacted the global humanosphere/technosphere, biodisasters and the human factors of biodisaster are receiving more notice by media (legitimate and hack) and research – Parademic Notes Weeks Archives, 170101-5, 161204-5, 161120-5, 161002-12, 160911-5.3, 160814-6, 160703-6, 160522-13 – and have been occurring with greater frequency, spread and severity, to include preventable ones 161127-4.3. Analogy however is susceptible to logical fallacies of anecdotal evidence and reasoning by analogy. How Trump and Friends Could Learn a Few Things From Mr. Spock. Twitter Mocks Trump’s Affinity for Phrase 'Many People Are Saying'. Analogies in Medicine: Valuable for Learning, Reasoning, Remembering and Naming.
-1.3. A second assumption was that the transition period between administrations would follow the historical pattern of publically being a relatively quiet hiatus as one administration prepares to hand the reins over, while another prepares to take the reins. This would have left sufficient time to collect, categorize, analyze and edit this paper. What happened was that though there was a clear pattern for continual attention, escalating outrage, preference to keep things in chaos, reactive responses, focus on the inconsequential, incoherence, intolerance for criticism, contradictory statements, backlash and push back, the rapid succession of uninformed ill considered decisions, controversy and conflicts – this pattern was not expected to continue as it would be a distraction from preparation for a major change in. In fact these same issues are comparable to the actions and non actions that increase the probability and lethality of a biodisaster accelerating and resulting in parademic behavior and social consequence (disruption).
-1.4. Acceleration and Deceleration are key concepts in parademic and biodisaster. These are the change in the curve of a trend in a relatively sudden upward or downward direction [Chart]. This tends to correspond to when a biodisaster breaches the liminal threshold of human senses and awareness, when people generally perceive a threat that needs to be responded too, though the threat is not always the biodisaster but the actions that are needed to contain and control. Sadly by the time this phase is reached in biodisaster it is usually too late to mitigate, much less prevent, but response can be diverted or delayed. This delay results in the biodisaster being costlier economically and in lives before it is contained and controlled. Moreover by not proactively taking appropriate action to a biodisaster the actions needed means draconian, if not pyrrhic, measures that are another expression of parademic. These could possibly be more damaging than the biodisaster itself. Ethical and Legal Considerations in Mitigating Pandemic Disease. Dual Threat: The Spanish Influenza and World War I. The factors that increase probability of a biodisaster accelerating and becoming a parademic are economic, uncertainty, mistrust, dense and urban populations, poverty, health and social inequity, rapid real time global communications, misinformation, and the rapid transportation of numerous living entities over global distances.
-1.5. The mass of information (erroneous, speculative, informed, valid, deceptive, fake), coupled with parademic conditions (dread, panic, anxiety, threats, coping behaviors, shock, stress, euphoria, disappointment, visceral responses), collectively made it impossible to have a finished article by the deadline of January 19, 2017. The inability to produce a product was itself a demonstration that the hypothesis has merit, though by no means is that a definitive proof. An unfinished draft was posted with the intent of replacing with this abbreviated final summary of findings. This did however provide an opportunity to add links to pertinent material that happened afterwards.
-1.6. There is a need to balance accuracy, completeness, validity, editing, peer review; with need, to have something useable before it is no longer of value to apply because it is made irrelevant by destruction or death that could be avoided if the information was available earlier. Indeed, pursuit precise of numbers in a biodisaster does not add any meaning to the data, and diverting effort to make sure that all numbers are agreement at all times does not help those affected by the disaster. Meaning is derived from the larger context and the developing trends, 160918-6, 160731-4.3. This working paper is not intended for academic publication, ain’t in an academic style, and there is no plan for a later version to make it so. However, this is useful as a reference to the background origin of actions and trends during Trumpism. The social disruption and changes related to Trumpism are not in fact change, but efforts to prevent and hinder change, or more precisely adaptation, to a world that is irreversibly changing economically, biologically, politically and socially. In biology the inability to adapt is associated with extinction in changing environments. Historically the same has been noted in humans. There is only one species of homonid left, and cousin primates are becoming extinct outside of human controlled habitats 170122-9.3.
-Quote2: A good plan executed now is better than a perfect plan executed at some indefinite time in the future. – George S. Patton.
-1.7. At this time, assuming no changes in current trends of Trumpism and existing biodisasters, the possibility of biodisaster accelerating before this could be published at academic standards Does it Take Too Long to Publish Research would render it moot. Furthermore it takes time for novel information to be distributed to affect perception, interpretation and decisions – not that this specific working paper will receive any circulation, but other works with the same message will be. This final is a highly condensed comparatively simplified summary of findings, supporting evidence and conclusions. There are no claims of any valid predictions of what will happen. Only that what is happening may happen sooner and be more dangerous.
-Quote3: “Historians will sincerely, patriotically, violently disagree with one another over their interpretation of events, so the idea that there is one ‘historical accuracy’ in itself a fallacy”. – David Culbert
-1.8. Some biodisasters have already accelerated and decelerated (crashed), or became forgotten, normalized or endemic, along with an increasing frequency and level of irreversible harm and damage, Global Rise in Human Infectious Disease Outbreaks. The Trumpisms that are comparable analogues to a parademic were already underway before the 2016 election, possibly starting with the Nativist Movements, and will eventually subside, but not completely disappear. Another trend that was already in progress was that the U.S. Science Suffering from Booms and Busts in Funding, and Public Health Readiness preparedness has continued on a decelerated trend as Trumpism accelerated. The ability to identify emerging bioevents, monitor those in progress, mobilize resources to contain and control are becoming weaker. This trend increases the probability of an acceleration of a biodisaster, that is will be more lethal when it happens and take longer to control, if ever, becoming endemic,a new normal, or moot due to no survivors.
-1.9. Neither Trump nor Trumpisms are a biodisaster or parademic, but an argument can be made that both are a symptom of social ills [Meme], a complication to complex biosocial interactions. In any case Donald Trump is not patient zero of Trumpism. The social/behavioral contagion (copycat) existed long before Trumpism and will continue long after. However, Trumpism is already associated with biodisaster and parademic: How a Pandemic Might Play Out Under Trump [Tweet, Meme, Tweet, Quote, Cartoon, Cartoon, Cartoon, Photo, Photo, Tabloid, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet], Trump Administration Puts the US at a Crossroad for Global Health Aid. -2. Trumpism (Somewhat) Defined: This is not solely about the individual named Donald Trump (The Donald), but about the social movements that are associated with the eponym Trump that impact on the biosphere and human health. Nor is this limited to the US nationalist jingoist movement but includes similar phenomena in several other countries in the world, Why Nationalism Is on the March Again, as the World Fractures. Lastly this is not limited to actions by Trumpism but reactions and preemptive actions to Trumpism.
-2.1.This use of Trump is the same as the use of a name as a referent to a geohistorical period: Hitler is associated a political party, oppression, war, xenophobioa, eugenics and genocide; McCarthyism as a type of moral panic or witchhunt; Jonestown with cultism, fanaticism, mass suicide [Cartoon]. Disease and syndromes are also named this way: Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is named after Hans Gerhard Creutzfeldt and Alfons Maria Jakob; Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is called Lou Gehrig's Disease; Alexandre Yersin was the discoverer of Yersinia Pestis, and Leprosy has been replaced by Hansen’s Disease. List of Eponymously Named Diseases. At this time there is insufficient data for a definitive definition of Trumpism. It may be that it will remain too chaotic to define precisely, not unlike a new pathogen than has been around for centuries or more, but the outbreaks of it were geographically and temporally separated, or could change in symptoms over time and among different populations. Historically the presence of an environmental or microbial disaster was only known by consequences, not by the direct cause. With the delay or hidden nature of cause and effect the tendency was to identify a synchronicity, a coincidence given meaning, as being the cause of the event. This would usually lead to what would be considered fantastical explanations and apophenia. Being Amused by Apophenia.
-2.2. Other contenders as referents or submovements are: Post Truth [Photo] that had earlier variations of: Truther, Armrest Truther, Birther; Alternative (Alt) Right [Photo]; Age of Trump [Cartoon, Cartoon, Cartoon]; Trumpland [Meme], probably a spoof from Zombieland; Trumpire [Meme, Meme], play on the Galactic Empire [Photo, Cartoon]; Trump Tribe, possible reference to the mob/wild west nature of Trumpism rallys, or the Twelve Tribes; Trumpocene [Cover], alluding to anthropocene, the changing global environment from human activity. All these terms are value laden, emotionally charged and controversial. Nazi is an example of this polysemy [Cartoon, Cartoon, Meme\fs24fs24 , Meme, Poster, Meme]. Likely these terms will remain contronymist depending on the user meaning for Nazi/Trump ranging from a slur to honorific.
-2.3. Based on indicators and statements from the collection period, it is likely that actions and policy that are associated with the eponym (or brand) of Trump will accelerate the logarithmic growth of the current progress and trends of biodisaster – which tend to be very slow, hidden, unnoticed and cumulative over long durations of the intial stages – and the biopolitics that mitigate or enhance biodisasters. These exponential trends of biological, biome, biosphere damage existed before centuries ago and cannot be blamed solely on current Trumpism.
-2.4. One aspect of parademic is that there doesn’t need to be a biodisaster for a parademic/social disruption to happen. Just the implication that a phenomena is like a biodisaster is sufficient, Trump: 'Infectious Disease Is Pouring Across the Border'. Politics, violent conflict, famine, economic downturn, xenophobia, magical thinking and other social phenomena can cause unhealthy conditions: Fear, Anxiety, and Depression in the Age of Trump, What Does Donald Trump’s Win Mean for Science and Medicine. -2.5. This working paper makes no predictions, SWAG, of what will happen. Unpredictability is a shared characteristic of both Trumpism and parademic in their initial stages, Why Being Unpredictable Is a Bad Strategy. There are indicators or what could happen, but the convergence of all of the various factors and circumstances is ineffable [Art] until after the black swan, 170122-T.1, 161211-6.1, 161002- 4.1.1-A, event that the odds are so against that it will never happen. However there are biodisasters already in progress, but not yet accelerated, so the odds of happening are already increased. How near Complete Certainty Can Make You Completely Wrong.
-2.6. One of the implications of a disaster is that some areas of consensus, beliefs, paradigms, models, assumptions, plans, policies, mental templates are thrown into question or found to be invalid. Disasters of all types are usually thought to be .000000000% impossibilities, but if it happens then the probability becomes 100% certainty. Otherwise it is presumed that an event would have at a minimum been mitigated beforehand, if not avoided completely. Donald Trump's US Election Win Stuns Scientists. The unfortunate reality is that by the time a biodisaster is fully understood by experts it is too late for many to be of any help, and will no longer seem relevant. This is sometimes called “lessons not learned” [Cartoon, Quote. Meme, Meme, Meme].
-Quote4: “It will be enough for me if these words of mine are judged useful by those who want to understand clearly the events which happened in the past and which (human nature being what it is) will…be repeated in the future”. – Thucydides, The History of the Peloponnesian War. The Plague in Athens During the Peloponnesian War. Can We Learn from Thucydides’ Writings on the Trump of Ancient Athens.
-3. Harbingers: Past and current behavior are not determinative of what will happen; however, they can be indicators of what will most likely happen in the future if there are no changes in current trends 160911-5.2. This section is a selective survey of past behavior, choices for key positions, information bubble [Cartoon], statements and current behavior. Parademic is not about clinically proven fact, but the filters of perception with GIGO interpretation leading real world implementation as behavior. In parademic the validity of the information is not as important as what individuals and groups are Choosing to Believe is true or false. The question is not so much what is in error, but determining in what way, or from whom, information is accepted (deemed valid) or not accepted (deemed invalid) 161225-3.1, 161211-1. Applying parademic is about why two or more concepts are right, but cannot be right at the same time and space. From this then find a common right that can be shared by those with opposing beliefs, preferably before they come into conflict. Waiting for conflict to arise, like waiting for a biodisaster to accelerate, is waiting too long, and costing more to correct - assuming it can be corrected.
-Quote5: Donald Trump “lives and thrives in a fact free environment”. – Carl Bernstein
-3.1. The first indicator is past behavior, background, morals and ethics, actions taken in similar situations, and behavioral defaults. There are also perceptions of self, perceptions of others, and how others perceive the actor and their action. These influence decisions, expectations and evaluations of future needs and vulnerabilities. Trends are the patterns of past and current behavior that culminate into the consequences (intended and unintended) of behavior.

-3.2. The people who are selected to fill key positions related to parademic and biodisaster foreshaddws what are likely actions to be taken by a government or agency. These people in part form what information and sources will be accepted; if there will be an echo chamber, or multiple sources of information; and the degree of validation and study that will be made before taking action. For parademic the individual selected as the Secretary of Health and Human Services will be in charge of national level health and will have influence on what is done in the health fields and what policies will be implemented though other departments, and agency heads could also be selected Beyond Obamacare: How Trump’s Cabinet Picks Could Affect Americans’ Health, What Will Trump’s Cabinet Picks Mean for the Environment. 3.4. Electronics and technology would not seem to be part of the biosphere, but as the biosphere becomes more impacted by human behavior, the cybersphere/technosphere is merging with the biosphere (biotechnology) and will become a new and increasing vulnerability. -4. Economic Impact: One of the first noticed and reported impacts of a biodisaster, indicating acceleration and that it is becoming a developing a parademic, is economic. The reasons vary from the loss of a biological resource, reluctance to travel to an area, or exodus from that area, financial speculation to capitalize on the tragedy or save investments, new economic opportunity (exploitation or new industry), loss of a labor force, panic buying and selling. Paradoxically this impact is not always negative, at least initially, but can be an apparent short term improvement. Often times solutions in biodisaster are like economic solutions in that they make the problem worse, misdirecting effort, causing iatrogenic harm and other unintended consequences. 170212-T.4, 170205-TB, 170129-5.1, 161106-8

4.1. Overall, showing a clear cause and effect relation with social phenomena and economics is problematic. Events that should have no impact on economies do, while those that should do not. -4.2. Hidden and long term costs and unintended consequences of economic policy are similar to the hidden, slow, costly and long term consequences of biodisaster and parademic. In fact these policies may be presented as means of protection of national economic health and/or critical infrastructure. However; what is critical can change radically in a disaster or medical emergency. This change can be For Want of a Nail. Protectionism, self isolation (The Last Town on Earth), disengagement from the global humanosphere, government control of health and medicine, all have a spotty record of improving or damaging economies. The related conflicts of interests, corruption, nepotism, exclusivism, logrolling, toadyism, all hinder response to biodisaster and can lead to acceleration of biodisaster. This behavior impacts on the larger official and unofficial black market economies, both of which can be exploitive and fuel parademic.

If they are successful, they claim, as a matter of right, the advantages of success. -5. Narrative: The vehicle of both parademic and Trumpism is narrative. The stories are what carry perception and interpretation. Narrative is not limited to speech or the written word but includes art, rituals, movies, poetry, games, drama and music. Narrative can be true in the sense of corresponding to factual events. Narrative can also be true in the sense of corresponding to social reality of what people believe is fact and act as if it is true [Quote, Meme, Quotein , 170122-2. -5.2. Narratives are not a cycle through steps, but the synergy of the parts making up the greater whole of the narratives as they combound (combine and are bound together), confabulate, become accepted consensus, social construction, persistent and competitive with other narratives. Narratives can be ethos, pathos or logos. Evidence based narratives tend to frame messages in logos, assuming that fact is sufficient to sway people away from unhealthy habits and practices Unfortunately persuasive narrative are best done as ethos and pathos and are self reinforcing and can be made to appear logos, while science narratives can change with new facts The Scary Reality of Medical U Turns, and How to Stop Them. -5.3. In some cases narratives no longer meet the situation and are adapted and/or changed, sometimes to the complete opposite, or spun to give a different meaning 170219-T6, or that the debate was never about the same thing. Despite the same word being used the meaning of the word was different between the conflicting groups 170212-T.1A. This change usually explains why the previous one was wrong, or a refinement that makes it more palatable but leaves the goal intact, Prophecy Fail. There can also be the adoption of an opponent’s narratives with cherry picking that supports one’s position. Usually it takes a complete total failure of a narrative before people will be willing to change to a new one, a paradigm shift. This is not always the case as people would prefer to die (literally) rather than give up a belief that is their personal or group identity. It is rare that a goal of a group narrative is completely abandoned. Usually the loss of the goal includes the loss of group identification and the group dissolves.

-5.4. Language and terminology are constantly changing. Words have no inherent meaning, they gain meaning from (constantly changing) context and usage. Disaster accelerates changes. With social disruptions [Meme] previous low frequency words for places, diseases, (bio)events, individual and group names, increase in global usage. There is also a tendency to replace former terms to make a situation seem not so bad. For instance the word pandemic is now avoided, since the 2009 swine flu hoax accusations. Now a pandemic is called an epidemic or outbreak, even if the disease is fatal and in several countries. 170219-C.2. The following are taken from Google Search, Worldwide, 2004-Present, where the increased usage also coincides with blurring and in many cases changes in meaning:

-5.6. Public reassurances or threats frequently backfire, if not causing a full backlash. Paltering is another technique that is briefly effective, but people will eventually see through the manipulation and not trust in any future statements, unless they have accepted the narrative as their worldview, or saw it too late to save themselves. This creates related apologetics, rationalization and violence.

-6. Conditions of Uncertainty. A biodisaster is the very definition of not knowing what will happen, who will become ill, who will not, who will live, who will die. Under such conditions people exhibit ritualistic behavior, defensive mechanisms (reaction formation) and magical thinking. This is not necessarily a problem except that people are not always aware that they are doing so. This lack of self knowledge and awareness can be deadly in a crisis or a black swan event, when one is grasping for explanations and predictability, making choices and decisions that are confusing opinion as fact, projections as objectivity, beliefs as evidence, behaving according to what one wants the situation to be rather than the needs of the actual circumstances. In a condition of uncertainty one may believe one is making a choice among a range of known options and what the consequences are, or making a decision knowing that not all information is available and that the outcome is uncertain. When unaware that they are behaving with certainty in a condition of uncertainty one is making choices or decisions unaware what information is necessary, what is incorrect, and what is missing. This usually means apophenia resulting in unintended and iatrogenic consequences that can be deadly to whole populations in a biodisaster. Decision Making Under Uncertainty adds another element as biodisasters don’t fit the standard disaster phases [Chart, Cartoon] which means that those who are charged with management are working from inapplicable assumptions and their certainties will fail. One of the issues about conditions of uncertainty is that the reconstruction of disorienting events is nearly impossible when there are competing narratives, different spins, and self serving interpretations about what happened. 161204-11, 160911-2.2B, 160731-4.2.

-6.1. Rumor. Information that is timely, adequate, credible, in a useable form and presumably valid information is as essential as timely, adequate, sufficient (presumably not adulterated or contaminated) food, water, shelter, and medicine. Filling the vacuum of information is inevitable if no information is provided about what people are personally interested in. If information is not available, credible or useable, then it will be invented. There are different theories about gossip and misinformation, A Theory of Rumor Transmission. What is definitively known is that rumor is like disease when in acceleration. It spreads very fast, faster than the most contagious disease. Rumor can be as lethal as the most virulent disease. And once established erroneous information is basically impossible to eradicate as the most hardy, durable, mutating and hidden reservoir of an endemic disease. Rumor (and some official statements) is also myth and urban legend like, tending to exaggerate over time (Sharpening), leaves out contradictory information (Leveling), and fits a priori models and biases, with addition of information that make it more credible (Assimilation), The Psychology of Rumor, Close Enough (II.4 Page 16). 170101-2.1, 161113-4.1B.

-6.2. Conspiracy Theory (CT) overlaps with urban legends, myth, propaganda, delusional paranoia and rumor. The basis of CT ideation is that a covert organization is behind surreptitious actions that result in harm of some sort, and have the power to cover up. CT tends to portray itself as an outsider resistance, the only ones who accurately perceive reality and can provide a “cure”. Tools of CT include fostering uncertainty, logical fallacies, doubt and mistrust. The problems from CT arise because to become effective CT needs to increase (Sharpen) the omnipotent but hidden threat, tending toward greater absurdity, paranoia, and extremes in action to maintain the belief. This type of belief tends to avoid information and questions (Leveling) that will contradict it, or would cause cognitive dissonance, often time by ignoring internal contradictions to maintain the CT narrative (Assimilation). This may be the unconscious reasons behind Trump Turning down Intelligence Briefings since Victory as these could introduce information and uncertainty that conflict with the Trumpism worldview. CT can be used to keep supporters, but will unnecessarily antagonize non supporters to greater resistance, and if supporters are lost they will become a greater threat. Using CT also makes it more likely to make one the subject of CT, and non supporters will make the assumption that all statements are based on CT or lies. 170101-2.1, 161211-1.4.

-6.3. Magical Thinking is believing that because you expect it to be that it will be so. This is similar to using the principles of sympathetic magic. To some degree everyone has magical thinking when dealing with subjects and events that they do not personally understand, or worse, that they do understand and are performing magical thinking to function. This becomes a problem when the beliefs, actions and rituals are not functional for the situation, such as a biodiaster, medical emergency, trauma, or using the newest smart phone [Photo]. Early Concepts of Disease are frequently portrayed as being magic, though at the time if one considers the cognitive tools available, and the level of understanding about life processes, these early practices are reasonable, even empirical, science. Magical thinking is dangerous when the irrational belief is persistent and repeated against evidence, behavior that it is not achieving the desired results, in fact may be achieving the opposite, but continued despite the repeated failure. This persistence is similar to the first stage of grief 170129-11.1, denial, where it can take time to accept a loss. Frequently this is associated with fact being contrary to a personal belief in one’s own or another’s authority of wisdom, power, or skill that is tied to the individual’s personal sense of identity, becoming a fixed ideation when challenged 161204-8, 160925-5.5.

-6.4. Parademic is filled with examples of misdirected effort toward solving the wrong problem, or creating a problem that does not exist. This is commonly seen with the diversion of assets from the problem solution, complicated with corruption and incompetence. Solving the wrong problems creates disarray with too many of the wrong resources arriving at the wrong place at the same time). This misdirection of efforts is further confused by creating legal, ethical, religious, political, or unrelated red herring issues. Are You Solving the Right Problems [Cartoon, Cartoon, Cartoon, Cartoon, Cartoon]. This is oftentimes illustrated with the politicalization of medicine: Abortion, High Costs, Public Health Funding, Specific Disease vs All Bio Hazard approaches, Health Diplomacy, Global Health, Climate Change, Habitat loss, Nuclear (warfare). Distraction from the issue by politicization impacts on the ability to prevent, resist and recover, from a biodisaster. -6.5. Supernatural, or modernized supernatural narratives, in developed societies are characteristic of parademic 161211-1.5. These are not always superstition but used as a metaphor. The existence of microbes was not known until around 1676 when Antony van Leeuwenhoek first reported them with an improved microscope, and microbes were not proved to cause disease until Louis Pasteur in 1864. With 142 years of a new narrative of germ theory, viruses, vaccines, sanitation (washing hands), against some 10,000 years of history and 200,000 years of anatomically modern humans being unaware of coexistence with an invisible micro biome, is not sufficient to change visceral paradigms that invoke supernatural explanations for what is observed. This is especially the case if beliefs against germ theory are expressed in terms of absolute certainty, while factual and evidence-based beliefs avoid absolute statements which leave room for doubt, Miasma Theory, The Historical Origins of the Witch, A Diabolical Whiff: Scents of Hell, Casting a Disease Curse. Updated versions of supernatural explanations for illness and biodisaster include homeopathy, neuropathy, “natural” nutrition, and unpasteurized foods, sometimes presenting itself as science (pseudoscience). This is part of the process of othering and stigmatization of those with or recovered from a disease, mental health issues, deformity and handicaps, differences in religions beliefs, physical differences, separate lifestyles and languages. The ultimate of The Other are those who have died (not always physically) or have a perceived relation with the dead – doctors, religious figures, nurses, criminals/politicians, business people, morticians, drugs sales (legal and illegal) and grave diggers.

-6.7. Blurring and blending is another characteristic of parademic, disasters and social disruptions, when the clear distinctions between things become vague and distorted. In some cases two or more former categories combound into something new. Readers of this working paper have undoubtedly noticed by this point that there is already blurring, where topical areas are not fully distinct, where material under one heading would work just as well in other headings. In a biosphere everything interconnects and forms a whole open system. Changes in one part of the system change the whole system. Blurring also includes combining concepts that were formerly separated, compounding two or more separate events into a single event, of splitting a single event into separate ones. There is also confabulation of fact and fiction. It is even difficult at times to distinguish between parademic and Trumpism. 170219-T.5, 161009-9.

-6.8. Grief is an obvious fact of a biodisaster from mass casualty and fatality, handicaps, maiming, chronic sequellae, stigma, and social distancing. These losses overwhelm comprehension, resources and emotions, making society less resilient to endure a following wave of a biodisaster. Biodisaster coupled with massive losses is an ultimate condition of uncertainty, with the added burden of mass grief, without time to process grief before more grief from new losses, Extended Küblar-Ross Grief Cycle. For individuals grief is a learning process that does not necessarily go in order, jumps between stages, returns to previous stages, and may never be over but a constant agitator [Chart]. Imagine how much more chaotic this is when large groups of people, all with different perceptions and interpretations, go through the same stresses and processes due to the same cause. Grief is associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Grief and PTSD - Topic Overview. Like humor, (Pandemic Humor, Ebola) one recognizes grief, but explaining it to someone who has not experienced it, or does not have the cognitive capacity to experience it, it remains ineffable. Like humor, it changes over time and geographically, having numerous individual forms, social ways to express and interpretations. 170129-11.1, 170122-9.1, 160911-1.3, 160821-10.

-7. Exploitation. Sadly there are always people that take advantage of other people in disaster situations, or otherwise profit by forwarding agendas, seizing power, causing social and economic panic, and sexual. -Quote22: Do you see a problem in every opportunity or an opportunity in every problem. – A truism said by many in various ways, to include Donald Trump (Mar 21 2004).
-7.1. Social Disruption and change are a hallmark of disaster. Change is necessary for living systems, in fact change is one of the indicators that something is alive rather than lifeless. Life adapts, propagates, spawns, evolves, dies. The social sphere, made up of living individuals, likewise adapts, perpetuates. The changes are due to technology, environment, ideology, and disaster (including those of the biosphere). There however is no evidence of a society ending solely due to a biodisaster, though 10,000 years is probably not enough time for a biosocial extinction to happen. There may be a cascading collapse stemming from biodisaster, but as long as there are survivors civilization endures, albeit possibly so changed that the current society is no longer recognizable from it antecedents. It is true that small bands of humans have died out, that areas have become depopulated of humans, that there have been genocides. However, every instance known of a society dying out is accompanied by a combination of biodisaster and concurrent other relatively rapid change, that the society is already in a precarious position until a final knock-out punch or tipping point, causes an irreversible crash. This last straw can be a biodisaster, or the precarious imbalance could include a biodisaster among other disruptions. -7.2. Moral panics are associated with biodisasters that become parademics, especially when there was no easy to understand and acceptable explanation for a biodisaster. Not infrequently the event is blamed on immoral behavior of people, that people brought the event upon themselves. Trumpism has many elements found in moral panics, to include moral entrepreneurs. -7.3. Hijacking is a form of exploitation when supporters and opponents use the same event to forward their own goals, agendas, and beliefs for personal benefit. This can range from straw men targets, figureheads, taking credit for actions of others, changing titles, and destruction so one can rebuild the same thing, reframing, blaming the other before they can blame you, spin, government conspiracy.

-8. Parademic Not Observed. When Parademic as a field of study began it had to use analogues as there was a paucity of direct examples of behavior and consequence in a biodisaster. Now this is no longer necessary, in fact the opposite has occurred where parademic can be analogues for other social behavior, including changes caused by human behavior on the biosphere, the Anthropocene [Map]. Some parademic behaviors cannot be observed until after inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2017. Given the trends so far observed, it is likely that parademic behavior will appear during the Trump Presidency. The possibilities include the following:
-8.1. Communication, which in biodisaster and parademic is normally in the form of Crisis Communications, was not observed during the period between election and inauguration – despite the deluge of media, tweets, information, misinformation, rants, warnings, et cetera during the interval. If there is a biodisaster acceleration during Trumpism one can only speculate at this time the form and content of crisis and emergency messages, or what they would consider a disaster that requires a national declaration [Chart]. An immediate issue with disaster communication is to develop and maintain relations, have coordinated and cooperative actions, and collaboration. The current lack of communication, if not outright antagonism, does not bode well for a disaster which is likely to become a competition, the exact opposite of what is needed for maximizing disaster response. In a biodisaster this could mean that those who survive by out competing will only survive longer than those who do not survive the initial crash, and will eventually be displaced by those who are cooperative.

-8.2. Movement is another parademic behavior that was not observed, though there was humor related to the topic, Mexico Builds Wall First to Keep out Americans Fleeing Trump Presidency [Cartoon]. Movement includes: Transportation systems Diffusion of a Pandemic through a Global Transportation Network; Migration Climate Change Is Already Causing Mass Human Migration; Self isolation/Echo Chambers that tend toward increased security, which in turn tend to impede operations, creates other vulnerabilities, isolates even more and develops into bunker or siege mentality, These 5 Doomsday Bunkers are Redefining Luxury, 161204-9.1; Distribution and supply Food Shortages; Quarantine Lessons from the History of Quarantine, from Plague to Influenza A. Millions Could Be Blocked From Entering the U.S. Depending on How Trump Would Enforce a Ban on Muslim Immigration.
-8.3. Continuity is a major goal when biodisaster accelerates, keeping things going while supply and distribution of resources is disrupted, and the work force is attrited: Continuity of Government (COG), Business Continuity Management (BCM), Continuity of Operations (COOP). Unfortunately these various programs work at cross purposes creating conflicts which interfere with Unity of Effort, preventing, hindering and neutralize efforts to contain and control biodisaster. There are procedures for Interagency Joint Operations that involve the various levels of government, volunteer organizations and private sectors. Even so the conflicts [Meme] of what is critical and priorities between the locals and outsiders (state, “feds”, international globalism) between official and Non Governmental Organizations, between public health and business, between law enforcement and medical care, media and privacy make for very uneasy relations. This is especially the case if there are no previous relations built up and mistrust exists. Moreover biodisaster by its nature is not conducive to emergency response 5 Recommended Actions Before, During and after a Pandemic, Public Health Pandemic Alert Phases, that is not globally coordinated. In global accelerated biodisaster there is no area outside the hotzone for staging areas, the disaster is not sudden, but lasts months if not years to begin and end, it does not have clear beginnings and endings, resources on a global scale are overwhelmed limiting mutual assistance, there are no procedures and planning for most types of biodisaster, and emergency management expertise are likely to be the opposite of what is needed for a biodisaster. 161002-5.

-8.4. Knowledge and ignorance are a constant fact in human societies. Trumpism, and parademic, and biodisaster do not change this fact, and both Trumpism and parademic are exacerbated by what people “know” and “don’t know”. People may try to learn things when necessary, though during a biodisaster that is not the best time to learn anything new and it is probably too late anyway. Worse are those who insist they are experts without recognizing that expertise does not apply, known as the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Ignorance is not stupidity, but simply being unaware of information or how to apply it. Knowledge is not wisdom unless one is aware what one does not know, and then willing to let those who do know take the lead. Nearly all biodisaster is based on human behavior done in ignorance of the long term consequences. Surprisingly this whole issue of education, a subject on long standing conspiracy theory The Horrors of Public Education, Putting Charter School Conspiracy Theories to Rest, did not become a major campaign issue. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge. – Isaac Asimov.
-8.5. War, famine and poverty are always are associated with biodisaster, either before, after, or concurrent. All four are preexisting conditions to Trumpism that will either be exacerbated or mitigated during the time period associated with Trumpism. From trends it is a near certain, yet unsafe, bet that the social disruption will likely increase the probability of all four.

-8.6. Invasive species is another form of biodisaster that was already well established long before Trumpism. By and large this is an area that is insufficiently funded for identification and preventive entry of an invasive species. The same under-funding and ineffectual effort continues for containment and control, if not completely ignoring the spreading problems until it can no longer be ignored. The main means of movement of invasive species to new biomes is by human transportation. Human immigrants can be framed as a type of invasive species that is harming the economy (taking away jobs) and bring disease. With the exception of microbes, humans are the most successfully invasive species in the world. 161204-3, 161009-6, 160605-4.1.

-8.8. Polarization of health issues is a problem that exacerbates unequal medical access, which makes biodisasters worse. It was observed before the collection period that US Society has become more polarized and that there is unequal access/equal protection. These trends are likely to accelerate under Trumpism. Polarization is a misnomer, there are actually three major political movements in the US, Democrat/Liberal, Republican/Conservative, and the largest group - those who do not to participate, If “Did Not Vote” Had Been a Candidate in the 2016 Us Presidential Election, it Would Have Won by a Landslide.

In addition political infighting will hinder response to biodisaster. We Are Struggling Together.

-8.10. Bioterrorism is an area where the curator of Parademic Weekly Notes has a strong bias. Compared to the natural outbreaks of disease and other biodisasters that are currently ongoing and continuous – costing lives and money – bioterrorism is not a major threat, hazard or risk. It is a valid threat and scary but its frequency, duration, and lethality do not justify the diversion of assets, the creation of an infrastructure and bureaucracy that distracts from other biodisaster. It can the argued that the funding for Bioterror also helps public health in general, but that has not been the case. However; it only needs one bioterror event and the previous facts will not matter. Will be interesting to see how this mainstay of US Policy since 2001 will be affected. -9. Conclusion and Beginning. Traditionally academic papers end with a conclusion. In this case it is the beginning. The idea that the social disruptions of parademic are valid analogues of other types of social disruption appear to be valid from a very short observational period but is not a proven observation as the actions and rhetoric of a political campaign may differ significantly from the period when a political office is held. This working paper may only be a descriptive observation of the emergence of a social movement, followed by actual effort to gain political office, followed by a phase of elation and dread when the office is won. There are indications of a correlation but not causation between parademic and social disruption, social disruption and Trumpism. The Parademic Weekly Notes will have stubs related to Trumpism and Parademic starting with 170122-T. Unknown at this time if there will be another stand alone paper on the topic. If there is a biodisaster that is clearly caused by Trumpism, or that Trumpism averted, there will be at least note of it.
9.1. Like the study of rumor, parademic has wider application. The insidiousness of rumor is not that it is false, spreads like disease, and is nearly impossible once it becomes endemic to eradicate, but that it is a normal mechanism of cognition that is noticed because the process goes wrong, Close Enough (page 59, paragraph 2). Parademic is normal behavior in the context of biodisaster, but noticed when it goes wrong in situations of uncertainty.
-9.2. Parademic is analogous to the social disruption of mass hysteria, narratives based on rumor/fear/hate mongering, mistrust, exploitation, conditions of uncertainty, and those dysfunctional behaviors also occur in biodisasters. Despite the many overlaps and interactions between parademic and social disruption caused by politics there are nuances of difference between the two. A social disruption does not need a biodisaster or to cause a parademic, while the sensing of a social disruption takes less time than perceiving a biodisaster. A parademic is in the context of a biodisaster (again it does not need to be real, just perceived, a pseudodemic) and does not always lead to social disruption, while it is more likely to become accepted, normalized, endemic, and permanent than a social disruption.
-9.3. In disaster, emergency, economic and war planning the worst case scenarios are often times used as it is assumed that if one is prepared for those then one is prepared for less harmful events. This isn’t always true as being prepared for the worst may make one vulnerable to the unexpected, the unlikely, the weaker threats. All too frequently the worst case also turns out to not be the worst case, or the only possible worst case. In addition preparing for one or more hazards tends to create new threats and vulnerabilities, and there is no disaster situation that human behavior cannot create, mitigate or intensify.

-9.4. Besides the inherent weaknesses to Using the Internet for Research and of digital ethnography, there are definite sampling biases with this working paper. There were favorable opinions about Trumpism during the collection period, but in the context of biodisaster and parademic there were only rare proof by example. Finding balancing material was simply not possible as it was not available, You Can Prove a Negative (Tweet, Tweet). It is difficult to get data that does not exist, even in the case of parademic where the data includes material that is false, fake, propaganda, market ploys, just plain crazy and otherwise unsupported by evidence. In Social Science the ideas of fairness, of giving equal weight and value to all opinions, of making narratives match preferred narratives, is not science but activism using material from science. In the interest of keeping the length of this paper down, a massive amount of material was deleted from the draft and not included from the notes of collected material. For those interested in material that has been deleted (to include methodology), or have questions or requests for information, they can contact the parademic website curator via comments.
-9.5. There is one caution about commenting on this working paper. Do not assume that one knows the political position of the author of this study. This is a test of a hypothesis, and though it is a reflection of people’s attitudes and reflections in relation to biodisaster, these are not necessarily those of the author [Meme, Meme]. The parademic enterprise and this paper in particular were approached with trepidation. Biopolitics is an integral part of parademic and so a part of the study. At the same time politics is a minefield that can attract unwanted attention, and cause violent and unthinking reactions. This is one reason for intentionally using devices that keep the Parademic website from ever going viral. It will either be dismissed out of hand by being too complicated to understand, poorly written, or will not seem pertinent except to a very narrow band of interest. Comments, to include constructive criticism, are appreciated, and trolling, flame mail and cyberbullying are also data on the topic of Trumpism and Parademic, especially if it points to a causation of acceleration of biodisaster. One of the concerns about Parademic is that if the site ever does go viral then a biodisaster acceleration has reached a degree that information and analysis is needed of the social dimensions. If that ever happens then the biodisaster is catastrophic and likely this information is too late.
-9.6. The last overlapping element of parademic and social disruption is the feeling of incompleteness, that needs are not satisfied, that there are questions unanswered. The Zeigarnik Effect: The Need for Closure.
-Quote26: After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true. – Leonard Nimoy, Amok Time [Meme]
