-1. Low Immunization Rate Blamed for Exponential Growth of Whooping Cough Outbreak near Lethbridge, H5N1 Comment, 170618-9↓. The current Pertussis started in 2010 in California. I was working as a Pandemic Planner and Analyst for NORTHCOM on providing DoD non medical support at the time, and spotted the outbreak before CDC did. This was not any brilliance on my part, I just focused on non medical aspects (EBS 1.1↓) and happened to know the demographics of the area of the first reported case was reported (it however was not the first case). The community involved included illegal immigrants, migrant farmers who distrusted authorities and avoided health care as they were afraid of being reported to authorities, 170618-2.1↓. California was one of the states in my Region, and as my medical counterparts had superior public health surveillance and access to public health information I would track reports of atypical diseases in popular media, which were well below the verified reporting thresholds ofCDC IBS 1.1↓. At that time the few case of whopping cough were usually associated with transportation from a foreign area. In this case this was the time of year and location of a mobile community with foreign connections and limited access to health care. Later it was determined by the clinical medical community that this was not a new strain that the vaccine did not work for. The vaccine had never been 100% effective or conferred life long immunity. It appeared to be more effective than it was because pertussis was still in circulation and people were being exposed repeatedly which reactivated the body’s immune system. Those who were vaccinated could become infectious and asymptomatic, but other people were still vaccinated and protected. Unfortunately the success of the vaccine resulted in less pertussis in circulation over time, with fewer chances of reactivation. Complacency set it, people stopped getting boosters, and with anti-vax were choosing not to have children vaccinated. Assure that adults around infants have been vaccinated not longer than two years, and should wait two weeks after being vaccinated before being around the infant. Those who are pregnant should vaccinate.

It would be convenient if there was always a clear link* between one belief and other beliefs, with a logical consistency of what the connection is with another belief, or why there is not a link when there are known logical connections between the beliefs. For example a community that tends to disfavor cremation of bodies allows one to anticipate this will be resisted as a method for controlling an outbreak that is still infectious in cadavers. However; knowing attitude about disposition of bodies does not necessarily help one anticipate other beliefs that would seem to logically fit with being against cremation. The reason of being against cremation may be religious, sanitation, pollution, ability to identify remains of individuals, distaste for mixing bodies together, historical, tradition. A religious reason that cremation is only for sinners, may link to anti-vaccination where there is a concurrent belief that illness is a retribution for sin. There could also be a non religious reason based on pollution caused by a fire that killed several people and burned thousands of acres, but was stopped by a back fire. If vaccination is viewed ed as a means of stopping the fire and pollution of a fire. But if the fire resulted in contamination, and people became sick after official reassurances that the ash and smoke would not lead to health problem, this would give credence that cremation causes illness, and this may link to anti-vax opinions if officials are absolutely positive that vaccines are safe for fevers, and have no contaminates.

-5. EU Court: Vaccines Can Be Blamed for Illnesses Without Proof. Despite the lack of scientific consensus on the issue, a vaccine could be considered defective if there is specific and consistent evidence, including the time between a vaccine’s administration and the occurrence of a disease, the individual’s previous state of health, the lack of any family history of the disease and a significant number of reported cases of the disease occurring following vaccination. Such factors could lead a national court to conclude that the administering of the vaccine is the most plausible explanation for the disease and that the vaccine therefore does not offer the safety that one is entitled to expect. ¶ Some vaccine experts slammed the ruling, saying the court’s threshold for linking a vaccine to side effects is too low. The criteria used by the court made no sense – and are similar to those used by vaccine injury compensation programs in the United States. Using those criteria, you could reasonably make the case that someone should be compensated for developing leukemia after eating a peanut butter sandwich.             -5.1. Medical scams typically rely on finding or creating a need, or something to blame, and pretending to fill it. This should be contrasted to Lyme disease, which is a real diagnosis and a real disease caused by a tick borne bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. Lyme disease symptoms include fever, headache, and fatigue, and it’s characterized by a skin rash known as erythema migrans. The diagnosis of Lyme disease is based on its symptoms, physical findings (e.g., the characteristic skin rash, which looks like a bull’s eye), and a history of being in an area where exposure to ticks is possible. Laboratory testing can be helpful if appropriate tests are used appropriately. If not treated, Lyme disease can spread to cause meningitis, carditis, neuropathy, or arthritis. The usual treatment for Lyme disease is 2-4 weeks of antibiotics, which is highly effective. Alternative medicine practitioners claim that Lyme infection can become chronic and attribute a vague constellation of symptoms as chronic Lyme disease, claiming that the condition requires long term antibiotic treatment. -8. Putting Others First Can Cost Lives in Emergencies. Selfless heroism isn't the best strategy in life and death disaster situations involving groups of people. Foolhardiness is not a good strategy for rescuing. In very critical situations, we have to be kind of selfish, but we can still help others if we have proper equipment and proper strategies. ↕C. Food Evolution Is Scientifically Accurate. Too Bad it Won’t Convince Anyone. The new documentary misses that the debate over GMOs isn’t about facts. It’s about values. Several years ago, a county government in Hawaii debated a measure to ban genetically modified crops on the island. The hearings highlighted the divergent views of pro GMO scientists and anti-biotech activists, many who assert, without credible evidence, that GMOs are linked to numerous diseases. ¶ Those deliberations eventually became A Lonely Quest for Facts on Genetically Modified Crops. The piece revealed the fraught and bewildering discourse around GMOs and why, even if you took the time to painstakingly verify all the claims and counter claims, most people aren’t interested in listening or changing their minds based on the evidence [Strip, Strip]. It’s too much of a slog, and it goes against the very human tendency to accept only information that confirms preexisting beliefs or mindsets. The majority of council members voted for the GMO ban, an outcome that was preordained – and also nonsensical when considering the evidence. Food Evolution: Film Review. Defends the place of GMOs in agriculture – sounds on paper like it might be one of those hack job rebuttals in which moneyed right wing interests disguise propaganda as a documentary. Many on the left will likely dismiss it as such, which is a shame: Though it doesn't address all of their complaints, the movie makes an excellent case against those who seek blanket prohibitions against genetically modified organisms – and, maybe more importantly, against those of us who support such bans just because we assume it's the ecoconscious thing to do.

The mock announcement was enough to make readers worry. But when the name of the hypothetical illness was changed to "horse flu," the news elicited a different reaction. Readers were not as concerned, and reported being less motivated to get a vaccine that would prevent them from contracting the illness. Graphics, too, altered perceptions of risk.             -C.2. Fiction is used frequently to illustrate parademic. Most stories have a background that the author either does not share as it is not relevant to the story being presented, or because it is assumed that it is widely known what the backstory is. This larger context explains the setting, how stray information is connected, and inconsistencies in the narrative. This larger global view can completely change the story. Over the past several years, rumors and theories have circulated about why Andy’s dad wasn’t around during any of the films [Meme]. Andy Sr. later recovered and went on to get married and father Andy Jr., the Andy we grew up with in the Toy Story series. But his recovery didn’t last forever, as he was later stricken with Post Polio Syndrome. Such questions however lead to credible speculation and rumor.
