Proactively preventing the spread of flu in animals is important, as animals are the most likely source of future human pandemics. -4. Very Few Pages Devoted to Climate Change in Introductory Science Textbooks. In more than the 15,000 combined pages from current editions of 16 of the leading physics, biology and chemistry undergraduate textbooks published between 2013 and 2015, less than 4 percent of pages were devoted toward discussing climate change, global warming, related environmental issues or renewable energy applications. If the average number of pages in a text book is 900 pages (+/- 600 pages), that comes to 36 pages. That sounds like enough pages in an introductory text to me. Probably not enough to really get in depth on the topic, but may explain why many people get climate change wrong or are easily swayed by credible denial. This is not neglect of a topic as claimed, especially given the breadth of other concepts that need to be covered, but manipulation of perception by using statistics to make it appear there is some conspiracy to not teach climate change. I am more worried about the errors in textbooks, The Trouble with Textbooks, but there is a real issue of people knowing enough to critically evaluate articles suchas Want to Save the Environment, Support Offshore Drilling which emphasizes (sharpening) the benefits, downplays (leveling) the potential risks, fitting a particular narrative (assimilation) (SLA) 170716-C.1.

One of parademic’s problem with eidolon bugaboos is emphasis on and devoting resources for the dramatic, when in actual fact the slowly accumulating, not very threatening, mundane biothreats are the ones to watch for. Not necessarily against security from bio and chemical weapons, but the tendency is to take resources from those programs that deal with actual occurring now threats to prepare for what are unlikely ones. The credible argument is made that preparing for weaponized agents is also preparing for the natural ones; this is not true, but is the accepted consensus.
