CV02. Humor: Coronavirus VI: Testing: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. This is more ridicule of trying to spin failure into success =2= =3= 200502-CV29 than satire CV29↓. At Home Coronavirus Test Kits Are Still Not in the Hands of Consumers. Here's Why.
CV03. Information: “” based rumors. Coronavirus: Letting Bad Slip Through the Cracks. Bad science is a lot like a virus. It starts small, but if it’s shared enough times, it can cause global disruption. There was a kerfuffle last month over whether it is safe to take ibuprofen to treat Coronavirus symptoms =2= =3=. It is a prime example of how a series of unfortunate errors can lead to bad health policy. It began harmlessly, when the Lancet Respiratory Medicine, a respected journal, published a 400 word letter from a group of European researchers that raised some safety concerns about the drug. It was an opinion piece that was, according to at least one of the authors, a hypothesis, not a medical recommendation. But much of the world treated the mere suggestion as if it were derived from the results of a clinical trial. Within a week, the French health minister, followed by a spokesperson from the WHO, recommended that people with Covid-19 don’t take ibuprofen. A day later, after pushback from doctors and scientists, the WHO backtracked, saying it did not recommend against the use of ibuprofen. The move sparked widespread confusion CV17, and for an institution that we’re all relying on for solid information, it was not a great look.
-A. PDN was watching this. There is so much harmful misinformation that this did not appear to be a dangerous rumor that needed to be addressed, besides the fact that in the interest of staying brief (honestly PDN is brief) it did not rise to the level of exacerbating the biocrisis. Methodologically CV30 it is a good idea to track back to CV22 the original source (keeping in mind that if its disinformation intending harm the seminal source will be hidden*. This is especially if the information becomes a social contagion =2= =3= that causes harm.
-B. POST COLLECTIO: There are people who base their reputation on conspiracy theory and seek to be associated with disinformation in the guise of the truth, and those trying to debunk are the Other.
CV06. Linguistics: Deaf Americans Are Urging the White House to Use Sign Language Interpreters at Coronavirus Briefings. CV06.1. Spanish Language Media Initially Required a Learning Curve for Coronavirus Coverage. Its coverage style wasn’t so different from English language media either: It largely left Latinos out of the story. The general story focused on informing people about what was known at the time about the epidemic. At that time, it wasn’t clear how it was going to affect the Latino community.
-A. On February 28, stories about the virus in general made up 28 percent of all the daily content published. That was the day that the World Health Organization increased its risk assessment of Coronavirus to very high 200909-CV01. The number of daily stories that mentioned Hispanics or immigrants started to increase on March 11, and peaking at 3.75 percent on April 8, the day that it was revealed in New York and Latinos and black people were dying of the virus at higher rates 201216-CV01. In terms of overall coverage Coronavirus coverage made up 30 percent of all stories starting on March 8. Coverage has only increased since then: On average, 7 out of 10 stories by the outlets analyzed have to do with Coronavirus in some way. Along the way, of all the stories analyzed in the study, only 75 were related to misinformation and dispelling it CV03.
CV08. Entertainment: Cast of 'Contagion' Issues PSA on Coronavirus Pandemic. Noticed that Gwyneth Paltrow =2= =3= =4= was not included. Can only speculate why. Perhaps her social media schedule did not have enough time to say something for a minute or less. Possibly because her character of Contagion was the index patient for the global pandemic, and that her character died, might have conflicted with the intended message. [Meme =2=]. 200620-CV18B, 200414-CV08.
