PDN Introduction, Glossary
CV01. Protection: How Large “Superspreader” Events Turned into Coronavirus Hot Spots. This is why large gatherings should be the last normal activity to come back after Covid-19 is contained. PDN would recommend waiting until controlled, or at least easily treatable.
CV02. Humor: [Photo], the World CV08 is Closed.
CV04. Politics: Antivaxxers and Lockdown Protesters Form an Unholy Alliance. The rallies in state capitals are featuring lots of the same language, and many of the same people are involved in the panic movement to scare the public against vaccinations. Anti Vaccination Activists a Growing Force at US Coronavirus Protests. Activists known for opposing vaccines have been involved in protests in New York, Colorado and Texas, where support for personal freedom and suspicion of government is rife. =3= =4= =5= =6= =7= =8= =9=. For natural experiments it is not always possible to test a hypothesis heuristic via replication of results. Fortunately, the antivax panic tends to repeat and recycle the same rhetoric and opinion influences. This does not prove the forecast*A that once social distancing took effect that antivax would exploit it CV11 toward its own narrative CV18 200505-CV04A.
-*A. If this attempt to exploit the CV for antivax purposes did not happen that would have been a surprise, and it would have been worthwhile to determine why it didn’t.
-B. This is not limited to the geography of the US or the bioagent CV. Same has been seen with previous outbreaks and in other countries. For example – again not absolute proof, and using terms of certainty is a clue a statement is wrong – the herd immunity policy of some countries over social distancing, is a variation of the antivax acquired or natural immunity. Acquiring immunity from being exposed to a live, fully potent pathogen is not always a bad thing. However, in addition to the relatively high probability of death, the chronic and acute conditions that result from CV =2= =3= =4= both make getting infected with CV unattractive. It is still uncertain that CV infection will consistently provide immunity, or how long the immunity will last, but even if it does provide immunity it is a gamble, like getting immunity from polio by being infected. CV04.1. Why Religious Freedom Stokes Coronavirus Protests in the U.S., but Not Canada. Religious freedom, cherished as an American ideal, has been frequently invoked in the United States during protests against Covid-19 public health measures.
CV05. Economics: U.S. Public Firmly Opposed to Reopening the Economy Immediately, to continue physical distancing measures, even as the federal government and some state governors are pushing to reopen the economy. This raises the question of who the federal and state governments work for. Those who are citizens, or the business interests who want to reopen and paid for them to be elected.
CV06. Linguistics: 5 Important Historical Events That Changed Language. CV is most likely an event that will change history, not just the course but the past interpretations. The loss and addition of words, and what those mean, also influence how people interpret the world and events, indicating change in thought (paradigm shifts =2= =3=). It is also likely that overtime the historical interpretation of CV will change in meaning.
CV07. Emergence: What New Inventions Have Been Created Because of Coronavirus.
CV08. Entertainment: Apocalyptic Movies Show What We Worry about Most. Even before the Coronavirus pandemic, movies about post apocalyptic worlds – often brought about by deadly, fast spreading viruses – drew millions of eyeballs. Now, with millions of people at home because of the Covid-19 outbreak, many are flocking to such narratives. What was missed is that these for the most part have happy endings, hope that all will be well at the end.
CV10. Spirituality, Philosophy: Decisions and the Dominant Narrative. Ethos of Independence Across Regions in the United States. Ethos is not exactly narrative. A narrative is a story that expresses an ethos, logos and/or pathos, while an anthropological ethos is the foundational cultural paradigms that guide behavior.
CV11. Exploitation: Vote by Mail Debate Raises Fears of Election Disinformation and conspiracy theories that could undermine trust in the results, even if there are no major problems. 200501-CV04. CV14. Uncategorized, Miscellaneous: Hard to Be Home: Real House Arrest Veterans Mull Isolation. In some ways, American citizens have been living under orders that are actually more restrictive than traditional house arrest. In other important ways, though, home confinement, which generally involves an ankle monitor, is tougher.

CV16. Consequences, Social Change: Demand for Meatless Meat Is Skyrocketing During the Pandemic. The Closure of Meatpacking Plants Will Lead to the Overcrowding of Animals. The Implications Are Horrible, Millions of animals are being killed and dumped in landfills to make room. Coronavirus Cuts 'Deep Scars' Through Midwest Meatpacking Cities. 200502-CV28. Inside the Slaughterhouse, North America’s largest single Coronavirus outbreak started at this Alberta meat packing plant. 200509-CV28.
CV16.1. Thousands Will Go Uninsured in the Covid-19 Outbreak Because Republicans Rejected Medicaid Expansion. Political CV04 slanting toward a linking of Medicare as a solution to CV. The problem is lack and inequality of access to health care =2=, in part because of the lack of health insurance, of which Medicare expansion would be only one of a number of fixes that will be necessary.
CV17. Uncertainty, Contradictions: The fear of being stigmatized 201003-CV18 and ostracized is the worst effect of disease outbreaks, an othering that is only surpassed by the ultimate othering, Death CV15 201216-CV01I. . This makes a more fearful uncertainty and allows the corruption of social norms CV24. The Sociology of Disease and Disgust. When negative health outcomes are tied to a situation where people are fearful of how that information CV03 will travel and how people will respond, secrecy ensues. That prevents people from seeing how widespread Covid-19 is becoming, contributing to misinformation CV03. This was true with HIV as well 200911-CV21.
CV18. Narrative, Social Reality: How ‘Karen’ Became a Coronavirus Villain, a popular joke about entitled white women is now a big pandemic meme. CV20. Communication: Virus Experts Aren’t Getting the Message Out. If the authorities can’t satisfy the public’s desire to know more, others will fill the void with misinformation. This issue of communication about health and environment issues to the general public has long been a wicked problem. CV is only the latest example of communication failure. Communication Skills in the Age of Covid-19 =2=. | PDN is not a good example of effective communication, but it does have advice on communication and many of the links are examples of effective communication, though not necessarily beneficial communication because disinformation has proven to be effective.

CV26. Environment, One Health: Africa Covid-19 Threatens Wildlife Conservation. Tourists are keeping away from national parks meaning less revenue and a higher chance of poaching. 201224-CV05.
CV29. Responsibility, Decision Making: ADDED: An update to 200505-CV29. PDN does not always note updates to previous stubs, but this was a significant change, but one that is not inconsistent to previous risky gamble decisions being reversed or reframed as a win.
CV30. Methodology: Networks – whether social, communication, supply and distribution, economic, formal and informal, pathogenic propagation, social contagion, rumor, computer, disinformation, etc. – are a key heuristic for parademic. One usage of networks is to model how to inform and teach about how social distancing works to slow spread and explains why in some cases a disease spreads widely among some segments of a population but not others. [Chart] has simplified diagrams of three types of networks Centralized, Decentralized, Distributed. [Chart] illustrates how a single node being infected can cause the loss of the whole network, a cluster within a network, or just the lost of one node.
-A. The severing, weakening, filtering of the connections between nodes would be different types and degrees of social distancing. The number connections, the type, how frequently a connection is traversed, carry capacity of the line, strength of connection, direction of flow (two way, one way), etc. All influence the probability of infection. MORE: Mar 2022 People Who Haven’t Had Covid Yet Probably Have No Friends, a Korean Doctor Says, the Doctor later deleted comments following backlash. The observation is true in the sense that fewer contacts with people, who in turn have contacts with others, means less chance of exposure. One is also more likely to be less protective from exposure with social groups and identification groups. There are other explanations. Someone may be naturally immune or had a mild case and did not notice it or was fully vaccinated and belonged to a social group that was very cognizant about protecting themselves and others.
-B. Keep in mind that this is a model, not reality. The probability may be low, but a single pathogen could result in an infection that will quickly spread within a cluster – antivax clusters vulnerability to vaccine preventable disease is an example. If probability is low, .0000001%, but the infection happens, the statistic collapses to 100%. Same is true if probability is high, 99.99%, but there is no infection then for practical purposes the infection probability of low, .001%. This is one of the reasons why 200505-CV04 CV infection is inconclusive about the efficacy of social distancing. An infection may occur because someone who is asymptomatic but infected sneaks into a reopened area to get away from CV and restrictions, and then end up being case 1 for emergence of CV in that area. Infection may not occur because people are afraid to enter an area that has no social distancing, not wishing to be a guinea pig to test if reopening was too soon or not. It is also possible that people can be responsible and not willing to risk the lives of others by going into areas that do not enforce social distancing.
