PDN Introduction, Glossary
CV02. Humor: [Strip].
CV03. Information: Media Coverage Has Blown Anti Lockdown Protests out of Proportion. Recent anti Trump rallies have been bigger than the anti lockdown protests. Guess which ones got more media attention. Even without the CV and gubergenic the PDN answer would be the protest that are not violent, consists of othered segments of the population, are not armed and not committing criminal acts, and have less confrontation with law enforcement, will get less media attention. The emphasis of media attention on extremism predates CV, fuels the feelings of being disenfranchised and makes the threat of populism more threatening, but not necessarily more intimidating. This makes people more willing to fight. Anti Vaccine Protests Hold Lessons for Journalists Covering Rallies Against Shelter in Place Orders. Anti Vaccine Groups Take Lead Role in California Stay at Home Order Protests. What Do We Make of Anti Vaxxers In the Time of Coronavirus.
-A. POST COLLECTIO: This is like the question would there be terrorism without media, and does media make it worse. It later turns out that media reports did not underplay panic anti public health measures, and in fact other “media” astroturfing sources were downplaying and/or deflecting blame to others =2= =3=. PDN clearly tends toward Leftist sources than Rightist, as opposed to PDWN which included more on the contradictions. This is in part an artefact that Leftist sources tended to report more on the human dimension of CV and evolved over time. Rightist sources tended to be repetitive and apparently disinterested in human consequences. Both sources have examples of being misleading and incorrect, but Leftist may have been self correcting of beliefs that influenced behavior, while Rightist tended toward not adapting to better evidence over time, persisting in beliefs and escalations of anti social behaviors. This difference in sources can be framed as the difference between Leadership CV29A↓ and being a bully, of ascribed and archived power.
CV04. Politics: Rep. Higgins to Introduce Bill Establishing New Pandemic Agency Within HHS, This new independent agency would be charged with preparing for, monitoring, and responding to pandemics. Further, it would provide significantly increased federal funding for research into treatments and vaccines against infectious diseases. This may be a step in the right direction, along to assure implementation of Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness and Advancing Innovation Act (PAHPAI), Public Law 116-22 June 24, 2019, which had lapsed and was not reauthorized in time to influence US pandemic preparedness. There is however a risk that without collaboration with the other agencies involved in disaster response, the focus may be overly medical, missing the social dimensions and human factors that complicate the complexity of biocalamities. 200420-CV28A.
-A. MORE: The WHO Is Seeking a New Treaty on Handling Future Pandemics. It Could Be a Hard Sell. POST COLLECTIO: Had forgotten to add that there already was an Office of Global Affairs, Office of Pandemics and Emerging Threats (PET) which by the time of CV had been neutered.
CV09. Arts, Creativity: Some may disagree that this is music. Bagpiper Inspires Hope and Tranquility During Coronavirus Pandemic. This is the tradition of the Military Tattoo CV22. The tattoo called people in for the night to take shelter for safety and sleep, to include the final rest CV15.
CV12. Personal, Relationships: Mother Who Had Coronavirus Finally Cradles Her Baby Girl after Giving Birth While in a Coma. Best Mother's Day Ever: Woman Who Beat Coronavirus Finally Meets Her Newborn Baby after Coma. 200802-CV16.
CV16. Consequences, Social Change: There are lots of open source material about masks from the perspectives of politics, public health, slowing CV, disrupting security and facial recognition, etc. What PDN has not seen yet is a look at why people chose certain masks. Costs and effectiveness are undoubtedly considered, but also people look for fashion and how to make wearing not anonymous but individually distinctive. It is important to be recognizable as a person and as an individual.
-A. POST COLLECTIO: There were articles of masks as fashion statements by the elite, and masks as both pro and con political statements. By in large though masks were not individualized but community protection.
CV17. Uncertainty, Contradictions: Trump Says Coronavirus Will Disappear Without a Vaccine but Fauci Says Opposite. Says there could be flare ups 200804-CV31 but virus will go away regardless. At least the CV chaos is consistent with previous behavior. [Cartoon =2= =3=].
-A. The task force may be defacto shut down. If so, that will add to uncertainty, but likely will result in more consistent (albeit incorrect) information. 3 Coronavirus Task Force Members Will Quarantine after Being Exposed to Virus =2=: Doctors Fauci, Redfield, Hahn. CV17.1. Why People Feel Misinformed, Confused, and Terrified About the Pandemic. Outrage Management: The Next Stage in Covid-19 Pandemic Risk Communication CV29↓.
CV18. Narrative, Social Reality: How Pandemics End. According to historians, pandemics typically have two types of endings: the medical (biocalamity), which occurs when the incidence and death rates plummet, and the social (parademic), when the epidemic of fear about the disease wanes. When people ask, “When will this end”, they are asking about the social ending.
-A. MORE: How Do Pandemics End. History Suggests Diseases Fade but Are Almost Never Truly Gone, usually called “going dormant” CV31A↓, POST COLLECTIO: or the pandemic fatigue of accepting it as a normal endemic condition.
CV21. Syndemic, Concurrent Disasters: As If Covid-19 Was Not Enough, Other Virus Outbreaks Are Erupting Around the World. This will likely get worse as people avoid medical care and prophylactic protection from disease in effort to avoid CV CV31A↓.
CV22. Longue Duree: Medical harm of the past influences interpretation of medical help in the present. We Want to Study You. For Black Angelenos, Coronavirus Triggers Fear of Another Tuskegee, 201012-CV22. In the purely medical context of Black Communities Account for Disproportionate Number of Covid 19-Deaths in the US, refusal would be seen as irrational. Add the social context of historical medical abuse and other treatment of African descent peoples, along with the history of the Tuskeegee experiment and race riots 210103-23B -C, this should be expected behavior. With the current known social determinants of why dark skinned people are more vulnerable to CV, and less likely to not get adequate medical care for CV, the reluctance is not only understandable, but it would be irrational to not have some degree of mistrust. Black Americans Are Bearing the Brunt of Coronavirus Recession. This Should Come as No Surprise =3= =4=. 201216-CV01.
CV25. Movement: A Photographer Spent Two Weeks Flying Around in Helicopters to Capture the Parked Planes at US Airports During the Pandemic – See His Eerie and Beautiful Work. CV09.
CV28. Logistics: The US Was Offered Millions of Masks in January. The Trump Administration Turned the Offer Down CV29. MORE: US Medical Mask Maker Blasts Government for Failing to Prepare for Pandemic: I've Been Ignored for So Long. A bit slanted as the need was not really appreciated at the time, though it would have been a great chance to restock the SNS with fresher stocks. At that time public health argued against masks as increasing risks. Moreover, it was a political risk to spend money and then not use it in the near future.
CV29. Responsibility, Decision Making: #Document Covid-19: The CIDRAP Viewpoint. Whether your community has been hit hard by Covid-19 or has been relatively unscathed so far, one thing has remained constant. Messages from government leaders and even public health officials have been all over the map, leaving in their wake much confusion and anxiety CV17.1↑. The Principles of Crisis Communication have been ignored by officials, experts, journalists, and other commentators during Covid-19 pandemic. 1) Don’t over reassure, 2) Proclaim uncertainty, 3) Validate emotions, 4) Give people things to do, 5) Admit and apologize for errors, 6) Share dilemmas. These all make for good leadership during infectious disease outbreaks and help us all cope.
-A. POST COLLECTIO: Largely during the first year of CV the tendency was toward the opposite of the above leadership traits. These are still having consequences among followers of two different types of leadership. CV03A↑.
CV30. Methodology: Societal Behavior During, and After, the Pandemic (Parademic by any other name is still not sweet). Humans are so fascinating, and that's why I study them. Was unaware of PhD Brandy Aven. Not surprising, though business and collaboration are topics of parademic, someone who completed graduate school while I was a pandemic planner after years of working in related areas, would not likely come to my attention, 200918-23. Finding people that have been researching and working in parademic like topics and areas has been a serendipity of CV. PhD Aven is of special interest to me as one of her interests is why collaborations fail to occur. Failure of collaboration has been something I have observed for years despite the critical and acknowledged need for it to succeed. Have been unable to explain why the failure beyond lack of frequency and intensity, which translates into lack of funds and general public support. Enduring collaboration may be another serendipity of CV, but unlikely. CV is viewed as anomalous which means will not happen again for a long time. Public, private, academic and government sectors have divergent of interests, insufficient common ground to sustain relationships and breaking down silos. Then there are the sheer overwhelming complexity and complicated interactions of the bio-, social-, and the micro- (-spheres) impact on the bio and geo macrospheres, is a tad daunting. POST COLLECTIO: A bit ironical but I did email PhD Aven, to include the issue of why collaboration does not occur very often. Never got a message back.
CV31. Futuring: Looking ahead to post CV, or at least the dormancy before the next waves of CV or other pathogen, there are likely to be surges in medical A↓, legal B↓, and economic C↓ areas.
-A. In addition to being unprepared for the medical surge of CV, during dormancy CV18A↑, the trough between waves of a disease outbreak, there will be a surge in the more lucrative normal medical practices CV21↑. This will likely increase the disparity between those who have and can afford medical access during troughs, and those who do not. That will likely create a surge of civil unrest about access to health care, possibly resulting in actions to address the inequality (not always well informed populist movements). If there are physical attacks on medical during CV this trend of unrest is likely (after a period of dormancy) to be a continuation of physical attacks. If there are few fringe and anomalous attacks on medicine (both agitprop and physical) during CV, the dormant unrest period will probably have an escalation of agitprop if the issue remains unaddressed. Eventually, these will become physical attacks CV23 upon the proxy strawman =2= of medical that represents the larger more insidious issues. 200629-CV23.
-B. It is anticipated that there will be a surge in divorce after CV and other legal suits =2= =3= =4= =5= after CV, not to mention numerous other suits that predated CV. There will likely be a surge in domestic abuse/ murder cases after CV. These will likely to attacks on proxies that will highlight the economic and social disparities of access to the legal system.
-C. There will also be an economic surge (MORE: Mar 2022 such as housing bubbles) that if not managed carefully could result in a second wave of economic recession. The precursors of this pre date CV and will be exacerbated by continued trends of policy and law during CV. Inequity of access will be sharpened as there are likely to be continued shortages of basic necessities and luxury items, as well as prepping for the next pandemic. Those who can pay more are more likely to get what they want, resulting in inflation, making it more difficult for those who have been or became impoverished to obtain what they want and need because of shortages and inability to pay more; This will include food. Rehire of the unemployed is likely to take longer than anticipated as it will take time for employers to rebuild income streams to rehire.
