PDN Introduction.
CV04. Politics: Trump the Superspreader. Trump is about to fail his big coronavirus test – the test of leadership – for a second time. His original failures in the weeks and months leading up to the COVID-19 outbreak in America are by now well documented. He was slow to take real steps to slow the spread of the virus, got angry at officials who warned the public to be prepared, and then seemed more interested in the ratings for his news conferences – or in finding a scapegoat for his failures – than in taking effective action.
-A. If we're feeling charitable, some of these failures might be understandable. Global pandemics don't come along every day, and the United States is far from the only advanced nation to get caught short by the outbreak. But Trump is about to make everything worse, because he cares more about his own needs – to bask in applause, to be reelected, to appear strong – than he does about the lives of Americans.
-B. Kellyanne Conway Reveals Trump Rally Will Conduct Temperature Checks and Distribute Masks =2=. Wonder who is paying for this (CDC, RNC, Trump Election Committee, SNS, SS, the state or city the rally is held at). I do have a suggestion to save money. Masks have been confiscated =2= =3= or were never distributed can be used, [Meme, Cartoon =2=] 200611-CV17. There is also the problem that identifying someone who has CV at the rally means they have already exposed others during travel, meals, hotels, and in line to enter the rally. There may also be protests that would expose more people. Tulsa Newspaper and Top Health Official Call on Trump to Cancel Rally. Trump Rally Attendees Will Have Fewer Safety Measures than High Dollar Donors, those attending fundraisers with the president had to have a coronavirus test and fill out a health questionnaire ahead of time. ADDED Judge Denies Injunction on Trump Rally over Social Distancing Guidelines =2= =3=, if I understand correctly this is for not within the rally space but for the community the rally is held in. 200616-CV06C.
CV15. Death: How Many Died. Different Ways of Counting Make the Covid-19 Tally Elusive. This implies that the number of cases is also elusive. There is also the even more elusive, possibly not even being collected data, are the chronic conditions that are resulting from CV and may have lasting financial and physical consequences. Children with Coronavirus Significantly Undercounted CV27↓. ADDED U.S. CDC Reports 2,104,346 Coronavirus Cases, 116,140 Deaths.
-A. ADDED US Coronavirus Death Toll Surpasses Number of American Service Members Who Died in World War I. Most of the deaths were non combat ones, but unknown if this include from infectious diseases like flu. WWI may have been used because it has horrific images, but the US participation was relatively short and had far few casualties than other countries, or in comparison to Korea, and Vietnam CV23.
-B. ADDED The Dead Don't Vote. You would think for such an exceptional nation, we could tally the dead and what the cause of death was. Alas, there is no national standard and there are reasons not to count the dead too accurately.
CV16. Consequences, Social Change: Gender and sex issues =2= =3= [Strip] are most definitely a parademic topic, but one I chose not to use as a category for CV PDN. This was for a few reasons. Despite my obvious negative bias about gubergenics (another topical area but not a PDN category). I try to remain objective (albeit not neutral) and not activist (albeit comments about fatal stupidity do seem to slip in). Gender and sex are loaded terms that tend to cause people to disengage critical thinking and evaluation. Gender and sex can and have been address under the categories used for PDN. The topic and the multitude of related complex and complicated issues (abortion, reproduction, sexual morality, moral panic, pornography, sexism, equality, dress, roles, politicizing) are outside by narrow range of expertise.
-A. The current kerfuffle over RK Rowling’s comments regarding sex (biological not practice of) and gender on twitter – and then the bigger mistake of trying to explain when cognition was already neutralized – have illustrated the reasoning on my part. This is a fantastic demonstration of parademic issues of communication of complexity, exploitation, misinterpretation, populism, toleration, people attacking proxies in the context of existential problems they can’t solve, and more. It is worthwhile to note that there are at the same time some (but very little) reasonable debate and discussions. Rowling is no stranger to being the center of abusive controversy and practiced at defending herself so Na gabh dragh mu deidhinn.
CV16.1. Creating a More Equal Post Covid-19 World for People Who Menstruate. If the context was different this would have been under CV32 Futuring. COVID-19 highlights the vulnerable amongst us across the globe: Those who are most vulnerable because of the crowded conditions they live in; those who must continue working despite the threat of infection; and those who cannot absorb the shock of the economic impact of closed economies and quarantine.
-A. Importantly, advocates are calling attention to the many gendered aspects of the pandemic, including increased vulnerabilities to gender based violence during lockdowns, and the risks faced by primary caretakers — particularly women in the household and health care workers, approximately 75% of which are women.
CV16.2. The issue of abortion, reproduction, unequal medical access, was one that I was holding off on adding, in part because it is dynamically evolving, was a parademic issue well before CV, and because it would fit in so many different categories. It seems appropriate to share what is believed and how it influences behavior here under Social Consequences. Getting an Abortion Just Got Harder, Thanks to the Coronavirus. Here’s What We Can Do Better. How Covid-19 Complicated an Already Complex Abortion Access Issue in the South. Getting an Abortion Became More Difficult During COVID-19. A Hotline Is Trying to Help. I Tried to Get an Abortion in a Blue State During the Pandemic. It Was Complicated. State Action to Limit Abortion Access During the Covid-19 Pandemic. Pandemic Abortion Crisis: More Women Need Services, but Access Is Harder than Ever. Coronavirus Created an Obstacle Course for Safe Abortions.
CV17. Uncertainty, Contradictions: Trump on Coronavirus: If We Stop Testing Right Now, We'd Have Very Few Cases, If Any, is an inconsistent comment on testing. At times he has sought to downplay the severity of the coronavirus pandemic by saying the U.S. has tested more people than any other country, and as a result, the number of confirmed cases is higher. Other times, he has complained that the positivity rates and case counts are too high, because the country has been testing so many people, [Meme]. Trump Calls High US Covid-19 Numbers "Badge of Honor" Because it Means More Testing, 200520-CV31. US Isn't Ready for the Contact Tracing it Needs to Stem Covid-19. We Have to Protect Each Other from the Coronavirus.
-A. ADDED Trump Uses 'AIDS Vaccine' as Proof Scientists Can Develop COVID-19 Vaccine =2= =3=. Trump Health Officials Pledge Covid-19 Vaccine Will Be Free to the Vulnerable, given the misinformation history of this administration this is likely to meet with skepticism, unless it was a typo and the official meant Valuable. US Expects Insurers to Cover Covid Vaccine Without Copays.
CV18. Narrative, Social Reality: City Enters Phase 4 of Pretending Coronavirus Over CV02. Dallas Diners Really Suck at Social Distancing. Dallas County Reports 305 COVID-19 Cases Monday, Adds 1 Death. ADDED Texas Hits New High for Coronavirus Cases, Hospitalizations. + Over 500,000 Americans Sign Petition Demanding End to Coronavirus CV02.
CV19. Technosphere: What Big Tech Wants Out of the Pandemic. The government has flailed in its response to the pandemic, and Big Tech has presented itself as a beneficent friend, willing to lend a competent hand. The challenges we face demand an unprecedented alliance between business and government.
CV20. Communication: UK Readers Find the Government’s Covid-19 Messages More Misleading than Actual Fake News. CV27↓.
CV21. Syndemic, Concurrent Disasters: Slowing the Coronavirus Is Speeding the Spread of Other Diseases. As poor countries around the world struggle to beat back the coronavirus, they are unintentionally contributing to fresh explosions of illness and death from other diseases – ones that are readily prevented by vaccines.
CV24. Norms: Its fully expected that if there is a 2nd outbreak, especially after claims the pandemic was over, the lockdown will be more immediate, likely more stringent. It is also to be expected that known the previous behavior people will try to escape lockdown, which will spread the outbreak further, increasing the geographic area locked down and curtailment of movement CV25. Beijing Lockdown Tightens as New Coronavirus Outbreak Spreads, entering ‘extraordinary period’ after 36 new cases are linked to a second seafood market.
CV27. Learning: AP Fact Check: Trump’s False Security on Kids and COVID-19 CV20↑. Trump expressed a desire to have K-12 schools reopen in the fall in “full blast” while minimizing the risk that children and adults who are around them may face from the coronavirus. “They’ve come out of this at a level that’s really inconceivable. By the way, the regular flu, other flus, other things, SARS or H1N1, any of them, if you look at the young people they were affected like everybody else, but for whatever reason with respect to COVID, the numbers are very, very low”.
-A. Although it’s true that children are less likely than adults to develop COVID-19, the CDC has nevertheless counted more than 86,000 infections by the virus in Americans younger than 18. Children Face Risk for Severe Complications and Death from Covid-19. Unable to find any consistent information on >18 deaths from CV in the US. Numbers do appear to be consistently low, but there are conflicts in dates, locations, age range, percentage per N and hard numbers. Probably the problem is as stated in CV15↑. ADDED Children Far less Likely to Contract Coronavirus, People under 20 Half as Likely to Catch Covid-19.
CV29. Responsibility, Decision Making: Nigeria Patients Groan as NARD Begins Nationwide Total Strike. Patients seeking healthcare services in different public owned hospitals were stranded on Monday as members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD made good their threat to embark on a nationwide industrial action. Among the demands of the doctors include the provision of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, an immediate reversal of the illegal disengagement of all 26 resident doctors, and the payment of all salaries Emergency, and COVID-19 isolation and treatment centres shall be exempted. This has happened before during medical surges (beside facilities, equipment and personnel, money is also needed), and for the same complaints. CV33. Legal: Extra Police Powers During Covid-19 Could Affect Relationship with Public for Good. Police adopting an authoritarian or militarized approach, ould mean they lose their legitimacy, especially with poor communities that have been hit hardest by the pandemic. On the other hand, if the police respond with compassion and care when they are required to enforce public health laws due to the pandemic response of their respective nations, this could build police legitimacy in a time of crisis.
-A. the over policing of marginalized neighborhoods and communities is particularly worrisome during the pandemic, when the police have to enforce new public health laws and ensure public safety while depending on the public's willingness to comply with social distancing or lockdowns in a way that they never had to before. At the same time, police are tasked more than ever to prevent civil unrest. Communities that already have strained relationships with the police might have a harder time complying with the new rules and regulations.
