PDN Introduction.
CV02. Humor: 40 of the Freshest Jokes about the Pandemic to Make You Laugh or Cry (More New Pics). An epidemiologist, an ICU doctor and a scientist all walk into a bar. I’m just kidding, they, know better.
-A. Though funny and helpful for coping with the CV parademic =2= the reason for this stub is about the use of quotes for parademic collection, analysis and synthesis CV30. Readers of PDN may have noticed that I tend to remove quotations marks, specifically in headlines. The main reason is that quotes often times leave out the full context (cherry picking =2=), changing the meaning of the quote. In the first years of collection on Parademic I would include well know popular quotes that were in fact misquoted, misinterpreted, misattributed, or never said. This was to emphasize that quote were suspect information, easily manipulated and are appeals to authority (Video) =2=.
-B. This is also a good illustration of SLAI RIDE 200428-CV18B-**2). Sharpens the safety message. Levels out details such as where or type of bar/ pub which would distract from the message CV15B↓. Assimilates to the larger theme of social distancing. Invents a new way to Recycle/ Repurpose the Iconic walk into a bar joke (bars have become a CV Icon 200709-CV31). In this case the Dissemination is via social media (likely by bots and trolls in echo chambers). Late the narrative Evolves, with variations, maximum spread, extinction, mutates, occupying niches, and subject to selective pressures.
CV05. Economics: Coronavirus Shows the Dangers of Letting Market Forces Govern Health and Social Care. In March, 10,000 NHS staff signed a letter to UK prime minister Boris Johnson demanding better protection against COVID-19. Nurses and doctors wanted to treat patients without fear of infecting them and to minimise their own risk of falling ill. But they lacked the proper protective equipment.
-A. The problem they described was rooted in changes made long before the arrival of the coronavirus. The NHS’s reduced capacity for dealing with the pandemic – including a lack of PPE – has been the result of years of allowing financial considerations to dictate the quality of care. Back in 2017, the government rejected advice that the NHS should stockpile protective equipment in case of a potential influenza pandemic. The reason was an economic assessment found it would be too expensive. Hospitals Are Running out of Staff, Supplies, and Beds for Covid-19 Patients – and this Time Could Be Worse. 200710-CV28
CV07. Emergence: Colombian Cartels Killing Those Who Don't Obey Their Covid-19 Lockdowns =2=. Well that’s one way to make people wear masks, not make unnecessary trips, keep social distance.
CV09. Arts, Creativity: The Dark Future for the World’s Greatest Violin Makers. Cremona has long been known for its fine stringed instruments. But now, after the Italian city became a virus hotspot, its craftsmen face tough times.
CV15. Death: Melinda Gates: COVID-19's Toll on Women. 3,589 people in Sierra Leone had been killed by Ebola itself. The number of additional newborns and mothers who died during childbirth was somewhere between 3,593 and 4,936.
-A. That is what epidemics do: They not only overwhelm immune systems but also overwhelm health systems. And because the parts of those systems devoted to caring for women are often the most fragile and underfunded, they collapse first and fastest. Covid-19 May Deprive 47 Million Women of Modern Contraceptives. One Virus, Diverse Impacts: the Pandemic and Women in Central and Eastern Europe. Dutch Sex Workers Risk Trafficking and Abuse as Coronavirus Bites. Sex Workers Lack Food for Taking HIV Drugs During Covid-19.
-B. Even though gender, sex, reproduction, women’s health, have been reported in open sources, there has not been the subjective enough to make it a separate general category. The items have fit better elsewhere 200701-CV08. This bothers me. In my original list of potential categories Gender and Sex was included, along with as Othering/ Racism. Perhaps I should have included it, like miscellaneous CV14 and outliers CV13 CV30↓, which I recognized from the beginning would not be used often. Is this topic leveled CV02B↑ by sharpening crime, titillation, exploitation, unequal access and representation, abuse, children ... never forming a discernable pattern. Is no data being collected CV03. Is the problem still not defined well enough to deal with it. Am I biased and ignore it, or biased and assume there should be far more than I am finding in open sources. Is it a hidden problem, or so widely known it is considered normal and mundane. Is it becoming an emerging issue that would warrant addition to PDN. Worse, is this yet another bradyoccult that is undermining health and environment, lost with the attention on CV, political machinations, financial issues, trying to cope with the crises of now. I suspect that when I complete this and have time to reflect, I may search through the past year and find that may not be categorized specifically, but like humor – and possibly others on the original potential categories list, as well as topics I did not think of – is found throughout the stubs frequently. Even if not frequent, one of the foundations of parademic is the causative event or agent is now where in proportion to its consequences 200719-1.
CV15.1. COVID Deaths Are Surging in States with 'Pro Life' Leaders. When we look closely at the data, the regions where the coronavirus is currently surging are precisely the places where white people have been manipulated by a distorted moral narrative for decades. Ironically, the governors CV29 who are most willing to watch their citizens die are the ones who have used pro life rhetoric CV18 to compel people of faith to support the narrow interests of corporate greed and white political power. COVID has revealed how the pro life movement is killing us.
CV22. Longue Duree: 2021 Rose Parade Canceled Due to Coronavirus Pandemic. Since its inception in 1891, the parade has only not occurred during the wartime years of 1942, 1943 and 1945. The event is people intensive. Thousands of spectators normally jam the 5 mile (8 kilometer) parade route through Pasadena, some camping out overnight on sidewalks to ensure a good view. For days ahead of time, volunteers work to decorate the flower laden floats that are the trademark of the parade. There are also marching bands from across the nation and around the world and equestrian units that not only take part in the parade but in other events.
CV25. Movement: A Guide to U.S. Coronavirus Travel Restrictions CV02. Some believe that humor is a suitable topic for serious studies such as disaster. However, in parademic I always find humor in the context of disasters. Humor does not necessarily mean comical, but taking a different perspective of a situation. Beside representing a coping mechanism, expressions of humor may reveal: Problems that are unrecognized; reveal that those being helped are interpreting aid and assistance very differently than intended; Can give an early warning of hostile attitudes the can interfere with operations, systems and protective measures. Humor may give insights into issues that one may never get by relying solely on hard fact, official statistics, and being serious when working. Besides sometimes when dealing with either boring data or depressing topics, it helps to just laugh.
CV26. Environment, One Health: Global Survey: One Health Networks and Workforce Response to COVID-19. Complete the survey based on your experience, to include non medical support for CV and Social Science. The objective of this collaborative study is to describe the contributions of the diverse workforce to the COVID-9 pandemic and the connection of One Health networks (OHNs) to workforce response activities. The results will expand the understanding of the value of a One Health approach and the role of OHNs. Results will be utilized to develop targeted interventions to improve workforce capacity for public health response to the COVID-19 and future pandemics.
CV27. Learning: Education During the Coronavirus Crisis. Will COVID-19 spell the end of outdoor and environmental education.
CV28. Logistics: Vaccine Alliance Says 75 Countries Keen to Join COVAX Access Facility. More than 75 countries have expressed interest in joining COVAX financing CV05 designed to guarantee fast and equitable access globally to COVID-19 vaccines. For countries pursuing bilateral deals with drugmakers, COVAX could help reduce their risk if one or more vaccine candidates fail. World Leaders Make Historic Commitments to Provide Equal Access to Vaccines for All. More than 150 Countries Sign up for Global Vaccine Plan. Logistics is getting what is needed to where it is needed, in time to be useful, and in useable condition CV06.
CV30. Methodology: I try to make it a practice of finding an item that contradicts the theme of a stub (the numbered categories). When dealing with parademic (and large groups of people in general) it is usually a cue that there is a missing part of the context if one does not find inconsistencies, disagreements, opposition. These often times are outliers CV13B↑, not necessarily wrong, a minority fringe, or even rare and crazy. Have been finding that in the CV parademic outliers are difficult to define in parademic terms due to uncertainty and that norms are so disrupted at this time. In parademic an outlier is either 1) a nascent behavior that may emerge CV07 in the condition of a parademic, usually as hindering or facilitating behaviors to the biocalamity; or 2) an anomaly that is not influencing the situation, but its occurrence in not explained by what is known. Being aware of outliers expands awareness of the context and assists in anticipating factors that may come as a surprise, even though they were around for a long time.
-A. For example Experts Aren’t Sure Why Botswana’s Elephants Are Dying by the Hundreds, after being slowed by the global pandemic, tests are now underway. Expert Warns Mystery Elephant Killer Could Leave Botswana Herd Decimated. If it's a poison or if it's a disease, the possibility of it spilling over into the human population is very real. Its also possible this is a reverse zoonosis of a human disease infecting the elephants. CV26 200705-3.
CV32. Anthromes: If We Love Our Cities, We'll Make Better Decisions about Their Future after the Covid-19 Pandemic CV31. It's the most famous city slogan in the world: I Love New York. And yet, surprisingly, love doesn't seem to play a part in how urban planners build cities.
