PDN Introduction.
CV03. Information: How Our Psychology Make Us More Vulnerable to Misinformation. Why we’re susceptible to misinformation, the psychology behind correcting it, and how to prevent misinformation: Though psychological concepts originate in academia, many have found their way into everyday language. Cognitive dissonance, first described in 1957, is one; confirmation bias is another. And this is part of the problem. Just as we have armchair epidemiologists, we can easily become armchair cognitive scientists, and mischaracterization of these concepts can create new forms of misinformation. First of a three part series.

CV03.1. Attitudes and Psychological Factors Associated With News Monitoring, Social Distancing, Disinfecting, and Hoarding Behaviors Among US Adolescents During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic. As COVID-19 spreads across the world, it is critical to understand the psychological (cultural, economic, political, technological....) factors associated with pandemic related behaviors*A. This perspective may be especially important to study among adolescents, who are less likely to experience severe symptoms but contribute to the spread of the virus. These behaviors are not unique to pandemic. For instance in war CV23 all the listed behavior occur, albeit some are in different forms, social distancing become othering of the enemy, disinfecting is neutralizing propaganda and putting the enemy in isolated (quarantined) camps of foreigners and dissidents.
-*A. Wouldn’t that have been great if decision makers CV29 had paid attention to hard science evidence about global health and environmental some 20 years ago, and the social factors 10 years ago, providing funds and legislative support. The categories listed in the headline are valid parademic topics – News Monitoring CV03 CV20, Social Distancing CV01 CV05, Disinfecting CV01 CV05, Hoarding Behaviors CV11, US Adolescents CV07 (Demographics). However, there are sources for specifics like these. PDN opted to stay with the wholism approach CV30.
CV04. Politics: India Narendra Modi Is Selling a Failed Covid Lockdown as a Success. ADDED India's Coronavirus Cases Cross 600,000 amid Easing of Lockdowns.
CV05. Economics: Hollowed out Public Health System Faces More Cuts amid Virus. Maybe its just me, but something seems wrong here. The US Government sent of a few billion dollars to people (not all of them living) to stimulate the economy, bought the worlds supply of a drug It Is Morally Indefensible for a Nation to Keep Life Saving Drugs for Itself, promoted and bought what apparently is a useless drugs, spends who knows how much to protect a single person who will not wear a mask, but does not bail out medical facilities. Six Takeaways of the KHN/AP Public Health Investigation: A pending drop, disappearing jobs, comparing policing money, states’ per person spending range, challenges for public health workers, money squeeze during the pandemic. Apparently gubergenic ignored that Healthcare and Public Health (HPH) are one of the sectors of Critical Infrastructure Key Resources. That could be interpreted that the American population is not considered important enough to protect. DHS – What Are Your Priorities, does the threat warrant the emphasis.
CV08. Entertainment, Recreation: Amsterdam’s Red Light District Emerges from Lockdown. It wasn't quite business as usual as Amsterdam's red light district emerged from coronavirus lockdown, but it was close. Kissing off Menu as Lockdown Ends for Dutch Sex Workers. Masks and Bikinis as Bangkok Sex Districts Reopen with New Rules. Unemployed Legal Sex Workers in Nevada Struggling During Coronavirus Closures. Sex, gender and reproduction are parademic topics, but tends to be not being reported often enough for patterns to emerge. Prior pandemics had an increase of rape – which could include domestic abuse the went up during shelter in place. Some governments have imposed abortion restrictions and defunding of reproductive and womens health clinics under the cover of protection. Drops in cargo transport, business trips and tourism have correlated with decline in prostitution solicitations. There is likely impacts on the drug trade, human trafficking and other exploitation.

CV12. Personal, Relationships: Early on with PDN I thought that I would focus more on local news, being one of the lucky communities that have both a weekly newspaper for the local region, and a monthly paper for our home community. That did not happen. Instead local news became clues of stories that were happening in other parts of the state, country and world CV30. We may be isolated but we are still the same as other people, for good or bad. We are lucky though that despite disagreements we are isolated and have to recognize that we depend on each other, that being independent (which probably why most of us live here) is not the same as being selfish, self centered, only concerned with me only getting only what me wants. Today our community paper arrived. This month is devoted to CV as it directly affects us (fortunately so far very few infections). There is not total agreement, but respectfully worded observations that we are still a community where helping is more important than disagreements over opinions. Is Not Helping a Bad Person Good or Bad CV10.
CV16. Consequences, Social Change: Dr. Cammy Benton: An Antivaxxer Plays the Both Sides Card on Masks for COVID-19 a classic case of false equivalence. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed just how polarized public health policy has become. The increasingly angry – and sometimes even violent – resistance to the requirement to do something as benign as wearing a mask in public in order to slow the spread of coronavirus. This is not new. There was an actual Anti Mask League =2= =3= =4= =5= =6= =7= 200628-CV22, formed in 1919 during the great influenza pandemic. Some have decided that wearing a mask is more about “control” than public health and that the refusal to wear one brands them as a “free thinking rebel”. Resistance to masks is small but not insignificant minority of has reached truly irrational and potentially violent levels*A. You don’t have to go too far to see videos of people angrily ranting and refusing to wear a mask, badgering and threatening underpaid workers at grocery stores and restaurants who try to enforce masking policies by politely asking them just to wear a mask. The false equivalence is the “bullying tactics” that ascribed to the pro mask crowd*A are almost never anywhere near as extreme, angry, or violent as those from the anti mask crowd, who had not infrequently thrown epic tantrums in response to polite requests to wear a mask inside stores, thrown merchandise around, and even attacked and killed workers trying to enforce masking policies. -B. Antivax, antimask, antiscience, white supremacy, tend to frame themselves as a moral crusade - panic CV18 – opposing perspectives of the same behavior that appears frequently in parademic – against an evil (fear mongering). Moral justification of actions tends to lead to simplification of complex issues as threats to absolutes and begin a purity spiral =2= =3= of increasing escalation of intolerance for other views and an ideological isolation. History Tells Us That Ideological 'Purity Spirals' Rarely End Well.

SC was the first state to succeed from the US in 1860, and a few months later officially started the Civil War by firing on Fort Sumter.
CV30. Methodology: There Is Too Much News. The basic rhythms of the news cycle don’t help us. Each day’s news must fill the same amount of column space, the same number of cable news hours, the same length of radio news bulletin. Usually, the most important of that news is hyped in ALL CAPS headlines, blaring chyrons, and breaking news jingles – this exerts a flattening effect, making it harder, over a long period of time, to distinguish actual news from attention hustling.
-A. I missed this obvious observation. Not that there is too much news, but that space and time needed to be filled, whether important or not, than the amount of factual news available. This exaggerates the need for sharpening to get attention (i.e. advertising and sponsors), with opinions that grow more disconnected from fact, fantasy presenting as non fiction, elaborating the mundane into tall tales. Maybe that is why parademic reports what is believed, rather than valid facts about human behavior in the context of biocalamity. Rumors and conspiracy theories also tend to fill information vacuums.
