CV03. Information: Information Sharing More Critical Than Ever amid the Coronavirus
One thing that remains clear is the urgent need for close coordination and information sharing between emergency management and public safety agencies, the public and private health communities, the private sector, and across the whole of government. CV19.
CV06. Linguistics: Viral Second Wave Fear Will Drive Us into Another Lockdown. Beneath shifting definitions of a second peak 200706-CV06 is a truth the world is too cowardly to contemplate. Second wave scepticism is controversial; that is until you consider the controversy around shifting second wave definitions.
-A. The original concept of a second wave was simple: lifting lockdowns risked an immediate resurgence of the virus. This may have been the meaning for CV, but second wave of a disease was used before the 2018H1N1 derived meaning. Usually it meant that disease would come in waves though an area, with decreases that then a higher peak, until it reached is highest peak and was followed by waning waves as it Burns Itself Out.
-B. Parademics, among the other disruptions that cause them and in turn they cause, tend to have disagreements on what words mean. Airborne disease =2= vs particulates (droplets) as in a sneeze or cough; propagation, spread, transmission; wave, surge, troughs, dormancy; and black swan event CV13↓ (200607)-1.1. This includes using unfamiliar words, technical terms entering the vernacular, new definitions and neologisms.
CV08. Entertainment, Recreation: Or more correctly infotainment =2= =3= CV06. American Catastrophe: How Did We Get Here =2= =3=. Tuesday at 9|8c on ABC.
CV09. Arts, Creativity: The A1 Verse: The Pandemic That Ate the Economy CV05. Executives Fear Economic Agony Is Far From Over is well written, meaningful, and appropriate that small snippets of it, properly chosen and arranged, produce something more than journalism, something that approaches … poetry.
CV13. Outliers: Was COVID-19 a ‘Black Swan’. And Why this Is an Important Question. Many commentators labelled the COVID-19 pandemic as a Black Swan CV06B↑ event, but this is a misunderstanding about what a Black Swan actually is. This is not just a pedantic point. Understanding the difference moves COVID-19 from the list of events that governments and organizations could not be expected to prepare for to the list of events they should have prepared to handle.
-A. The theory of Black Swan events was developed to categorize non predictable, high impact events. First, it is an outlier, as it lies outside the realm of regular expectations, because nothing in the past can convincingly point to its possibility. Second, it carries an extreme impact. Third, in spite of its outlier status, human nature makes us concoct explanations for its occurrence after the fact, making it explainable and predictable.
-B. The COVID-19 pandemic is causing business continuity professionals to question the industry mantra that scenarios should not be planned for, rather only impacts should be considered. However, this approach may have been ineffective for the current pandemic. Specific plans for specific scenarios where taking an impact only approach does not provide enough specificity for effective business continuity. However, scenario planning should always be approached with caution and balance. Consider if your organization would have benefitted from a pandemic playbook.
-C. As a speculation the government as business approach may have been what contributed to the severity of CV. Business is for profit and any action that increases profit is good. However, Government is not for profit, but safety. Terms like efficient, cost cutting, leveraging gains, speed, more jobs, employees as assets not stakeholders, are all indicators of a mind set that works well until there is a disaster. This is exacerbated by the fact that those who profit from business are buffered from consequences. U.S. Needs to Unite and Restructure to Meet Disaster Demands, Emergency Management Panelists Warn.

CV18. Narrative, Social Reality: [Cartoon].
CV21. Syndemic, Concurrent Disasters: In a Fight Over a Colombian Coal Mine, Covid-19 Raises the Stakes. an Indigenous people of northern Colombia and Venezuela have called upon the United Nations to intervene in their struggle against the owners of one of the biggest coal mines in the world, called Cerrejón, near the Venezuelan border. The region has long been wracked by grinding poverty, drought, and, since the advent of large scale production at Cerrejón noxious pollution.
-A. Now, as the global Covid-19 pandemic bears down on Colombia, a new threat made exponentially worse by the pervasive coal dust and drought. According to data air pollution is worsening the situation. The shortage of water for hand washing also makes it difficult to prevent disease spread.

CV31. Futuring: How Can We Save Halloween and Holidays from the Coronavirus.
CV31.1. Our Post COVID Society: What to Keep, Toss or Do Differently. We know the post pandemic world will be very different, but we haven’t thought through what we need to do to make it a better one.
-A. One discouraging thought is that we’ll never see a post pandemic because COVID-19 could morph from pandemic to endemic. Like some of its coronavirus cousins that cause colds, the SARS-CoV-2 virus could become a permanent fixture, sweeping through populations every few months.
-B. COVID-19 has also shaken almost every government on the planet, exposing every political failure and social injustice that helped set the stage for this disaster. U.S. Hits 4 Million Cases of Coronavirus – Adding a Million New Cases in Just 15 Days, that is acceleration of a pandemic, one that is unlikely, unless behaviors change drastically, to plateau anytime soon.
CV33. Legal: Mass Arrests in Zimbabwe Over Coronavirus Regulation Violations. Officials say the arrests stem from so called violations of coronavirus related sanitation and safety measures. Critics say these arrests specifically target opposition voices.
