CV17. Uncertainty, Contradictions: Why Optimism Can Be Dangerous During a Pandemic. For those of us who insist on seeing the glass half full, even when the miserable brigade point out that it’s also half empty, Covid-19 poses particular challenges.
-A. In regular times, our relentless optimism wins us friends and provides us with a host of benefits including higher levels of wellbeing, increased resilience and better health. Normally, the only downsides relate to minor setbacks when things don’t turn out the way we would like and the mild irritation of grumpy colleagues when we’re chirpy at work.
-B. Now, things are very different. During a pandemic, we need to act as though it’s likely we will get Covid-19 in order to keep ourselves safe and avoid spreading the disease to others. So what is an optimist to do.
CV19. Technosphere: Grave Counting Satellite Images Seek to Track Yemen's Covid Death Toll CV15.
CV21. Syndemic, Concurrent Disasters: Syndemic Responses to Covid-19 Should Include an Ecological Dimension. Covid-19 should be addressed as a syndemic of biological and social interactions. Studies have found that widespread anthropogenic ecosystem degradation has played a crucial role in explaining why the rate of emergence of zoonoses has been increasing over the past 40 years. For example, deforestation, intensified agriculture and livestock production, and climate change have been linked to the emergence of Ebola virus, HIV, Nipah virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and Zika virus. Unless reversed, the anthropogenic destruction of habitats will probably lead to the continued emergence of new zoonoses from the estimated 700 000 other unidentified viruses with zoonotic potential. CV27.
CV23. Polemic, Myphysis: Russia Sends Army Doctors to Help Covid Fight in Urals. 201027-CV01.

Fear of dying from the Coronavirus is finally get people around to doing what many Mexicans had put off until the pandemic struck – making a will. While Mexicans happily accept a gift of a sugar skull with their name on it for the Day of the Dead celebration, they are less comfortable talking about matters of inheritance when it comes to discussions of death.
